Hi everyone.
This topic or Question came to my mind during powder shortage and long range shooting and hunting fan.

I am looking for a catridge :
1.need less powder
And
2.get the highest FPS
And
3.need less powder is possible
And
4.deliver the maximum energy
And
5.highest velocity is possible.
And
6.cheapest possible.

Purpose of deer hunting at 100-200 yards.

I know there is a lot of hunting cartridges but I'm looking for something that can deliver at least enough power to put a deer down in maximum 200 yd.

Share your opinion pls

Many hunting bullets designed to expand effectively down about impact velocity of 1,800 fps or so. Go through reloading data / charts - many dozen cartridges, I think, that can deliver appropriate weight bullet at 1,800 fps at 200 yards. Muzzle loader guys accomplish their kills with a lot less, I think? Or, some cartridges can be accurately loaded down to those levels? You do not say what you are using now? Anything based on 308 Win case (358 Win, 308 Win, 7mm-08, 260 Rem, 243 Win) is going to be a lot more capable than you are looking for? If you want minimal - just enough - maybe look at something based off the .223 Rem / 5.56 case?

Another vote for the 308 Win. here. Very efficient with gobs of choices for bullet weights and styles along with common as dirt availability of brass including including high quality milsurp.

Another for .308

All my center fire rifles are .308. Have taken everything from white tail does to huge bull moose. Bam flop!

308, because components are most common and can be used a in many 30 cals. Wife bought the cheapest 308 ammo at Cabela’s. 180gr Sako at 2556fps in 308. I believe it; painful recoil in a T3x Superlight.

For all you guys who vote for 308 ,
6.5 cm need less powder and get better performance than 308 .

I am looking for a cartridge with less powder get the maximum performance .

I am a big fan of 308.
I have over 20 rifles chambered in 308.
I want to reduce the powder grain and get something or even better for :
Long range
Hunting mediums/big game and target shooting.

I mean 6.5 creedmoor will only have about 1.5-2.5 grains less powder than 308 realistically. And sure the 6.5 creedmoor will lose less velocity over longer distances but you mentioned distances of maximum 200 yards for hunting... 308 and 6.5 creedmoor will be equal in performance at those distances except that 308 will deliver more energy. And 6.5 creedmoor can't shoot heavy 180gr bullets like the 308 can... which makes the 308 much better suited for medium/big game hunting. (I'm not saying the 6.5 can't do it)

If you want to stay within 400 yards for hunting, you'll be hard pressed to get something that works better than a 308 with less recoil.... If you want a purpose built long range target rifle, than 6.5 has some real advantages over the 308.

223 or 308. Not sure why you need the highest FPS for 1-200 yards but either will kill deer like lightning if you do your part. Both cost approx. the same unless you reload. Then the 223 beats it by a mile.

.338 federal
fits in modified .308 case and in my own humble opinion..... more versatile than the .308 when it comes to hunting the range of animals we have here in Canada.
of course if a guy was using the same rifle for target shooting as they are for hunting then yes , the .308 would probably be a solid choice.

edit to add..... the 6.5CM or grendel would not be on my list as they are not versatile enough for the range of big game we have access to. Perhaps the 7mm-08 should be considered though.
