Splitting the gap between 26 and 28. Reminds me of 25 Creedmoor why not just go 6 or 6.5?
25 and 27 caliber have such limited bullet selection.

Seems more and more are taking notice about shortened magnums that fit in a short action with high BC bullets, like Sherman wildcats has been doing for years, but with a saum case.

I like the .277 bores. Another option or two seems okay to me. As for barrel burning worries, that concern really doesn’t hold water for me on a hunting rifle. Many hunters only shoot maybe 25 rounds per year, often less. So even if a rifle barrel really “only” lasts 1000 accurate rounds, it should be filling somebody’s freezer for about 40 years. Plenty of time to save up for a new barrel I think.
