the new NEA cantilever scope mount

I'll have some pics ina couple of days...

I just took the exact same setup to the range. I was soooooooo stoked until all of these things happened to me:

1.) NC Star scope was soooo far off zero, took me about 50 rounds to get on the paper
2.) NC Star scope quick release mount was loose and the scope moved on the nc star mount - Tightened up the bolts with an allen wrench and one of them stripped.... Junk
3.) I finally got close to zero and then it was going all over the place again! WTF - realized that I never torqued the NEA butt stock adapter in that well and it came loose
4.) Got rained on like a mother F'er, all my guns, gear, ammo, were soaked

Frustrating day at the range, but still fun! :)


So question to you Steve-o

- Is the NCStar holding zero?
- Are you having problems with the screws holding the quick release mount to the scope?

Question to Charles Martel
Should I be lock tighting in the butt stock adapter? What torque do you recommend?

NC Star scopes = Sh*t. Problem 1.

Improper attachment of adaptor, mount and scope compounds your issues.

Torque and loctite attachment points and try again.. most of all, get a good optic. Make sure that the ADM mount is properly tightened, Make sure the adaptor is tightened and loctighted, use good rings and a good optic.

I've shot ~1000 rnd under this mount and have had no accuracy or zero issues (see the NEA video). I also have everything properly tightened, am using a larue base under a Custom C-More scope. Use cheap optics, get cheap results.


I never understood why people pay good money on a rifle, good money on a mount and then cheap out on the optic. The optic is the reason you paid for the mount.. get a good one or don't use one. There is no major answer that'll allow you to shoot bullseyes for $100. Get good gear, install and deploy it properly and practice. There is no cheap answer. Cheap = Cheap.

Please don't misunderstand me here, I am not in any way bashing the NEA mount i think its the sweetest thing ever, just felt like posting about my wet frustrating day at the range and the crappo NC Star. :D

I'll report back with pics, and maybe even a video shooting steel knock downs at 200 yards in a few days. Just gotta take care of some other business first

No pics yet as Im traveling but will have some soon.

I got a new range membership and took it to the KTSA last week. (nice range btw)

After blue locktigting everything together on the stock adapter and the NC Star, all of my issues are gone.

once again it took me a while to get on paper - Not bore sighted, but I got it close enough by watching my hits on the 300 yard berm without too much wasted ammo this time.

Took the mount off, put it back on. Scope returned to zero. So it passed the test.

I never knew how much the ballistics of the 762x39 change until shooting at this range. It's my first time shooting past 300 yards, and it's all good to about 400, then WHAMMO I'm dropping 5-10 feet between 400-500 meters.


... Now one thing I did notice is that my XCR (in same caliber) seems more accurate. But it also has a real scope on it and I have no idea how to shoot with the 858. The trigger pull is brutal ha/


Anyways, bottom line is, this is a sweet mount, it returns to zero, and my shoulder is sore again!
