im not sure if anyone remembers my post a couple years back about my dad and myself having a competition building the cheapest 223 that is actually still accurate and nice.
he went with the Howa and i went with the Ruger Predator.

so we both really liked our builds but 1 thing really stood out on both our builds that we both wanted to fix.
that was the magazine or lack of for his.
mine of course had the Ruger rotary magazine but i was less then impressed with it.
it worked fine but was cheap and flimsy and not a lot of fun to load.

we both discussed replacing the magazines and then my dad landed the first punch and picked up the add on bottom plate for his that has the magazine add on and a couple box magazines for it.
i felt left behind.
then ruger came out with the 2018 Predator and Ranch versions of their 223 rifles and they changed the crappy magazines to let the new models use AR magazines!
i was so happy.
but that was short lived.
i talked to ruger and it ended up that the old guns would not be able to be converted over to the we add on magwell.

so i took a shot and decided to sell my Predator and buy a new one.
this was super hard for me to do.
firstly because in all my years of shooting i have never once sold a firearm.
yes, fine, im probably a horde'r!
but secondly the freak'n gun was a laser beam!
it would shoot clover leaf groups all day!

so with much anxiety i sold my predator to a co-worker and i ordered a new rifle.
but this time i ordered the Ranch version of the rifle.
my reasoning being that the ranch was listed as being able to shoot the 5.56 and the predator is only listed to shoot the 223.
i know i know, who cares.
well, i do.
so i ordered the Ranch.
then it ended up that Ruger decided to stop making the Ranch in 5.56 and now they only make it 223.
so that sucked.
so i looked into having the new rifle (which i didnt even have yet) reamed out to 223 wylde.

but as luck would have it (or as unluck would have it) i could not find the Ranch rifle in stock with the new AR magazines anywhere in Canada so i purchased one from the states and had it imported..... and, as im sure a lot of you know the recent orders got help up at the border.
so my rifle sat at the border for a while.
so from purchase till today almost 3 months roll by and im without my rifle.

but today, today my rifle arrived!!!

i was so happy!
i took all the stuff i had removed from my Predator and put it all onto the new Ranch rifle.
scope, compensator, bipod, oversized bolt handle..... and then i noticed it.... this rifle is stamped 5.56!

im not sure what happened, im guessing maybe this was from the small batches they did when they went over to the new model and still used the 5.56 stuff before deciding to go 223, or maybe Ruger just lists them on their website as 223 and they are 5.56, i dont know.
all i know is i have my new rifle and i like it!

Saturday morning can not come fast enough!

and on a related note, the rifle came with one of the new magpul LAR PMAG 10 round mags.
those are actually very nice!

*and yes, that is a left handed butt pad on a right handed rifle, cause i shoot left and the world of shooting is not geared towards lefties*

its a LAR mag, AR pistol mag.
since they are made for the pistol they are 10 rounders.
Oh I know about the LAR mags, but didn't know Magpul was making them now. Very cool! Last I heard, it had been proposed to them but they didn't show any interest in making them.

Sorry for the derail by the way.
