The new SIG HYP rifle—the first direct impingement AR platform purpose-built for 6.8x51mm hybrid ammunition, also known as .277 SIG Fury. This isn’t just another AR-10. The HYP is a premium, reinforced rifle engineered to handle the extreme pressure of hybrid rounds while maintaining a familiar AR feel and footprint.

Developed as a more accessible alternative to the MCX SPEAR, the HYP rifle features steel-reinforced feed ramps and cam path, a beefed-up upper receiver, and a cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel capable of withstanding pressures well beyond 80,000 psi. SIG claims the barrel life will exceed 10,000 rounds, which is impressive for a round this hot.

While it shares compatibility with DPMS-pattern AR-10 lowers, SIG designed the HYP as a complete system optimized for .277 Fury and is not currently offering upper receivers separately.

Key Specs:

Designed for shooters who want MCX SPEAR-level performance at a more traditional AR price, the HYP lets you run true next-gen 6.8x51mm ammo in a lighter, more modular package.

10,000 round barrel life is pleasantly surprising.

I expect the throat would be well chewed up by that point.

I like it, I don't understand the round though. Is NATO changing calibers to defeat Chinese level 4?

Just give me (back) an AR 10 in .308 and I'd be happy.
