Fellas, I'm finding the weakness in my M37/M87s.
The older factory issue Choate stocks do not hold up well under the repeated use of 12 gauge Winchester Super X foster style slugs.
Twice now on two different Deerslayer Police Special models, I've had the stock throughbolt work itself loose. I thought a bit of blue locktite would resolve the issue. Now it seems the transmitted force is destroying the 'threadform' that secure the screws attaching the recoil pad to the buttstock.
I have an older 20 gauge M37 Featherlight with the original factory wooden stocks that I sometimes mount an M87 fully rifled barrel upon & it does not have this issue with the very energetic sabot slugs.
I notice the newer black polymer stock from the newest Ithaca factory look and appear very much tougher than the 1980s Choate stocks, dispite being partially hollow inside.
I now have black walnut stocks on order from Oneshottactical.
Until they arrive I will only use a wooden stocked plain jane factory Deerslayer for scratching the 12 gauge itch.
Something to keep in mind.
