Have you ever had a gun that went out of your life never to be seen again?
My father had a nice old lee Enfield 303 that the more I learn about other LE rifles I'm starting to think was special.
For one thing, it had good sporter front and rear leaf sights, a very heavy rosewood stock and very fine checkering. It did have the military style butt-plate though, and a round cocking piece and magazine cut-off.
I think it was either a custom sporterized Lee-Enfield Mk.1 or an actual factory sporter. I'm sure it wasn't a SMLE No.1 Mk.3.
My father took to hunting with a Winchester Model 43 in 22 Hornet in the late 1960s and lent the rifle to an alcoholic buddy of his and we never saw it again.
