saw one of the first run 444 marlin rifles the other day, with the straight stock and long barrel. wow, wish they had kept that configuration in production, i think its a pretty nice looking rifle. anyone else prefer the old long barrel/straight stock version?

i imagine these are hard to come by.

I guess I should know:redface: but I don't, what is the difference between the Marlin 444S and the 444P? When I picked up my 1st 444 apparently there was a 'rifle'(?) model also available. Mine is a 444S.

444S is the 22" barreled rifle. The 444P is the 18" carbine with ports (same as a guide gun). Can't remember what the carbine without a ported bbl is, 444G I think?

Jerry "mad dog " Shriver a legendary green beret used a marlin 444 in the Vietnam war for bunker busting, google him lots of good reading!!
