The original Creedmoor

Here is a shot plot to show how well this ancient technology works at 1000 yards. This was my best target. The last shot was not plotted but was an 8. The master class shooters can do it a bit better. I'm only in the expert class as of yet.

This year's Phoenix match winner was Dave Gullo, considered by most to be the best long range shooter in our game. You can see him shooting at 1100+ yards here:

Chris.

That is just fantastic shooting with a 45 caliber! Very impressive.

Those are absolutely gorgeous rifles, I'm an 1874 fan myself. I don't own one yet, but this is the year! I would love to get into long range matches or silhouette but I don't think there is much for BPCR in Alberta.

Actually there is more BPCR in Alberta/Sask than anywhere in Canada I think. Are you on the Shiloh forum? If so get ahold of SchuetzenDave. He's from Alberta and shoots with us. He knows pretty much everything going out where you live.

There is also a Shiloh Canadian Invitational match each year. I think it might be in Bethune.

I'm also a big fan of the 1874's. I shoot a few different actions but my Shiloh's are as good, or maybe better, than my custom rifles.

I had heard of the stuff on Saskatchewan but hadn't heard of much in Alberta, so that's good to know! I have tried to sign up for the Shiloh forum probably 3 times and each time it says that my account is pending approval from an administrator but that approval email never comes.

I'm going to start with a Pedersoli first. Just can't justify a Shiloh or C. Sharps with the current state of the dollar. I'm going to get the Pedersoli Silhouette model, can't decide between 45-70 or 45-90. Sorry, 45-2 1/10" or 45-2 4/10th ;)

Are you shooting a priming charge of smokeless to reduce fouling or is that allowed?

Duplex loads, hush:p I'm pretty sure old school means strictly black. Smokeless is a dirty word to the BPCR crowd. I shoot a 50-90 with a 700 grain plus paper patch bullet with a 118 grain OE black powder charge out of my bull barrel Sharps. I'm learning about fouling control with wet wipes followed by dry patches through the bore. For those who are starting out or are a seasoned vet, login to Shiloh Sharps forum and learn from the plethora of info from those who black powder is a passion or sickness but either way is a hell of a lot of fun:)

Great shooting! I go that far but with modern expensive optics and high BC bullets that stay supersonic to 1300-1400 yards and some days have a hard time hitting the ground if I fell on it!

Yeah duplex loads have gone the way of the dodo for these matches. I'm not sure if the DCRA matches allow them still though. Straight black does pose some challenges regarding fouling control, but it's a level playing field because we all have to deal with it. To get good velocity you just need to use good powder like Swiss or Olde Eynsford. My .45-90 is loaded down at 84.5gr and still shoots at 1330+ fps. Most people seem to be close to that velocity, but there are exceptions. Kenny Wasserberger shoots the fastest bullets I know of in BPTR, at over 1400 fps. They are still supersonic at 300 as I pulled targets for him and the sound in the pits is painful.
