Guys,

I've owned a LOT of shotguns, but I think I've made the perfect one (finally).

-870 Police Magnum Receiver
-Rem 14" MOD choked 3" barrel
-Scattergun Technologies (Wilson Combat) sights - front sight tritium and silver soldered
-Vang Comp oversized safety
-Blond Police wood
-TacStar 6 round sidesaddle
-Limbsaver custom fit recoil pad
-Scattergun Technologies +1 extension and follower

For me, it's the perfect mix. Short enough for ease of packing on hikes, but Modified choke so I can still reach out on the odd grouse or clay pigeon. Nice for a range blaster, but also use it places where people would cringe at a 'black shotgun'.

I've gone through many iterations, and I keep coming back to the 14" barrel! 18" feels too long, and I have enough hunting guns already.

For defence and blasting, I think I've created the perfect beast!

Sorry! Wrong thread. I thought I was reading a post on the "perfect shotgun". The one in the pictures only has 1 barrel! :)

PC9 - I can't recall - I might have even bought that wood from you! It was someone on here, and I can't remember.

I've had a TON of people ask 'where'd you get that wood?' - CGN!

Also - does anyone know if they make 870 stocks out of 'pepper laminate'? Or any color laminate?

I've never seen any, but always thought there would be a big market for that... why can you get EVERY rifle stock in the WORLD in laminate, but not an 870 stock and forend?

Yes you did get it off of me:)
I was in Del Selins a couple of months ago and he had a 870 Marine Mag with a pepper Laminate stock.

Very nice but alas perfection, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. The only concern I have though is the ghost ring. The rim appears to be quite thick, and while this adds to the robustness of the sight, I think it could pull your focus away from the front sight. I would consider opening it up, if this did in fact turn out to be the case.

I like it. I think that you've struck a good balance between beaty and practicality. What kind of wood is that, birch? I'd try and remove all of the remaining stain and oil it for an even more blond look. Myself, I've got a set of walnut police furniture set aside for my 14" barrel.

It looks good, but I have to ask: "Perfect for what?" I presume "Home Defence". If so, the peep sight would not get used, and the way the ammo clip is afixed it could get in the way. In hunting situations, I've found that once I've emptied the mag, a bunch loose in my right pocket is better than using them hanging off the gun.

But I'm not an experienced "Home Defender" like some, neither can I speak first-hand to "Bear Defence". :p

T'is a lovely shottie... I, personally, would also vote against the side saddle, particularly with those beautiful wood stocks.

MY perfect "defensive" shotgun would be similar, but with tritium bead, and flashlight fore-end... because badness seems to be more likely at night...

:)

I meant more animal defence than human.

I struggled with the sidesaddle idea as well... it's more to be able to keep ammo with the gun, rather than for a 'tactical reload'. I find I can get them out of my pockets almost faster than the sidesaddle.

Got a set of those sights on my 870MM; they work great.
