Hey all,
There have been discussions this spring about new garands and many guys ( including me ) jumped out of their seats when reading this. But then the rifles came and were according to some people in quite bad shape. I did not see them, as the stores selling them are mostly over 15hrs away from me. Then marstar talked about getting some. No words ever since. So the question is : Where are the garands? In good shape that is. Is all that came all we've got? Other than private sales, where to buy a very good shape garand exept private sales?

Epp's is sold out of the bunch they had.
M1's have a great deal of demand with a limited supply of rifles in decent condition. You have to be in the right place at the right time with cash in hand. If you're forced to buy through the mail or on-line, you're taking the chance that the seller isn't a pirate or doesn't know what 'decent condition' means. That'd be a clean, undamaged stock with a good barrel.
There's lots of 'em in poor condition that their sellers think are worth the prices they see on U.S. sites. I've seen them at gun shows, in terrible condition, that the guy wanted nearly $800 for. Same guy wanted $4 each for clips in poor condition. He carried the stuff back and forth a lot.

I would not buy one from Milarm at this time. I personally checked a couple they had from the shipment they got. Very Very bad shape. And i took 2 of them apart almost completely. Lots of rust. Very worn parts. hunks missing from the wood. This is the only group of rifles i actually saw first hand. There may have been some gems in the group but i handled the best examples they had at the time. That was about 6 days after they had them up for sale. P&S has far better pricing but i have never seen their product.

Most likely the reason WW2Guru saw poor condition rifles at Milarm was because they were heading out the door as fast as I could clean them. The remainders were the rifles that were not so nice. Well, I will agree that some of the fourty odd garands that Milarm received are in fair condition there were very few that were rusted. I have been asked by them to clean the rifles that came packed in grease and they are in good shape (which I am doing for my own form of stress relief, strange as that may sound). It is true that the stocks are beat up but the parts are good to v good and most of the bores are exellent. No I will not comment on prices as I beleive that even a WWII dated rifle in exellent shape should not go for more than $800-$900. If you are looking for a decent garand (relative to what is on the market) Milarm still has some gems left. The poor ones will probably be stripped for parts. So if anyone is in need of parts give them a call. And NO I and not on the Milarm payrole so I have no investment and cannot gain from any implied promotion.
