I bought an old school 40XBR 6ppc benchrest rifle out of an estate a few months back. Actually I got two. But this one had the bluing wore off. The 23" barrel looked like there was still some good life in it so I decided I would build a sporter rifle to use the Sako factory 6ppc ammo I had accumulated.
Gunco polished and reblued the receiver and bolt handle. Rempel recontoured the barrel down a bit, and chambered it so I could use the factory ammo. I refinished an old 700 ADL stock. The trigger is the old three lever design that came on it. Its a bit light id guess under a pound which isn't ideal. Otherwise it came together nice. Shoots great. But I'm blanking some primers. Going to try a heavier striker spring and see. Suggestions?

It’s going to eat factory ammo for now but i will reload them with thick cup sr primers eventually.

Nice rifle that one be. I envision scenes of badger nuking & coyote bombing. ;)

If you've already stripped down and cleaned the bolt assembly and still get some light strikes, then get a Wolff 28 lb spring to ensure reliable ignition with the
harder primers.

Thanks guys. Need to fix the primer piercing issue as I prefer the smoke to go out the barrel not into my face. Will update once I try a spring. I find it’s hard to shoot decent groups with your eyes closed.

Carefully round & smooth the end of the firing pin with 400 grit sand paper on a hard surface. Chuck the firing pin into a cordless drill, put a bit of light oil onto the paper then slowly work the face of the pin to a ball curved profile at low speed and pressure on the drill. I've done a pile of firing pins this way with fine results.

Looking at the pic of your primers I can see that your firing pin needs a "facial".

David Tube sold a Rem 700 Speed lock firing pin and spring ... but now they just offer their 'precision duo firing pin spring' ... I have his speed lock system on a Rem 700 short action .. and it performs fine (although so did the OEM ass'y fwiw)

The click of a speed lock pin/spring really lets you know it’s got quick lock time, I have one on my 260 and I believe there’s one in my 7rsaum. I’m going to try a Wolff spring in this one. Cheaper and might solve the problem.

It’s simple to measure how far the firing pin extrudes from the bolt face. I have seen many 700’s that needed the firing pin taken down. Hard to tell from the pictures posted. Just guessing but I would start with some measuring tools and read above.

Seen it many times on 700’s.

Simple fix. Don’t overthink it.
