I think the Remington 7600's are slick and have always had at least one. But after shopping around at gun shows I have come to the conclusion that the one that is impossible to find is a 7600 chambered in 35 whelen. I know that they are out there, but the gentlemen that have them are guarding them like a national treasure. Is this anyone else's experience? What other 7600 models are impossible to find?

.35 rem, .280 rem, 7mm-08, 25-06 all have been chambered at one point, but good luck finding one...People love the .35 rem as it can be re-chambered to .358 Winchester or .35 Whelen easily...

I'm sitting on a NIB 7600 Carbine in 35 Whelen and some day my son will have it. I set a Leupold Vari-XIII 1.5-5x20mm on it. I try and keep the ones that are hard to find.

I bought two of these 7600 Carbines in the 35 Whelen three years ago at Epps. One for my boy and another for my cousin and he has since sold it on Gunnutz. I thought it would have sold "FAST" "Nope" sold for 625.00 and was for sale for almost a month before it sold. The 760 Carbine's come up on GUNNUTZ once in a while. Keep your computer on and eyes open.

Tikka, I think it is all timing. It sounds as though you hit a jackpot at one time though. Congrats. $625 would have been a good price for a 7600 carbine in 35 whelen. I didn't know they made the carbine version in 35 whelen!

You are right, the 7600 carbine wasen't offered in the whelan. However, while at the shotshow in Vegas a few years back, EPPS put in an order as Remington was considering making a limited run of this rifle. Eventually a shipment arrived and EPPS had 5 or 6 show up at their store. They sold fast, and I got one of them. Sadly I sold it a short time later, NIB. They were kind of neat because they were a limited run, but wasen't that impressed with the overall quality. The stocks were quite plain, they had no sling studs and no recoil pad. I much prefer my pair of vintage 760 carbine gamemasters from the 1960s. Much nicer bluing and wood, but not chambered in the whelan mind you.

I got one of the first ones, back around '88. They seem to show up regularly, put a WTB in the EE and I'm sure you'll find one. You can't have mine, I'm guarding it like a national treasure even though I don't use it much. My wife gave it to me for our engagement.

Dogleg, sounds like you have a good one - I mean wife. My wife gave me a folding stock for a mini 14 to mark our engagement. Truly, the wives that allow us to behave the way we do with all these guns and stuff are truly the national treasures here. Still, a 35 whelen 7600 is close to hunting perfection. My 7600 weathermaster in .30-06 is still my best brush gun, but a .35 whelen ...

Hey Saskcop, if you want one that bad, (I mean one of the carbine 7600 limited run models from Epps), try my cousin Tikka. He chimed in earlier in this thread. His is still brand new and maybe he could be persuaded to part with it... but maybe not. Never hurts to ask!!

A guy almost feels bad about "liberating" such things from fellow gun nutz. I have a line on a three different ones right now. Two are carbines and one is the rifle.

Remington made 7600's in .35 Whelan between 1988 and 1996. They don't give the numbers made on their site though. Likely not very many.

Sorry it's a keeper :D

7600 35 whalen

I had 35 Whalen 7600's in both carbine and regular length. I sold the carbine to a bear hunting buddy as it was a little jumpy because it was so short. I still have the regular length one, it has the etched game scene on the receiver. I bought it two years ago from a fellow out west. I find myself using my 7600 in 30-06 out of habit and the Whalen hasnt seen the bush with me. If you are real serious in buying one I might be interested in letting it go. Quick picture of it.

Yes, they (Remington) chambered them (7600's) in all those calibers mentioned.

Grice Wholesale in Pennsylvania has done a number of those special runs, including one in 30-06 with a birdseye maple stock & forend.

Mine is an 88/89 vintage Whelen rifle. And no, not for sale.
Once you got one, you don't want to part with it.

True enough. But I did ultimately part with my 7600/35Whelen rifle but only after the Shot Show circumcised version came my way. It's a hunting fav of mine with its 18 1/2" barrel and 1X4 Leup. My thanks to Epps and Mastercard - oh - and Remington for cobbling up a few.

The 7600 in rifle length barrel and 35 Whelan is also very accurate ....fwiw at least with 200 Hornady Spitzers which should be loaded as long as the magazine can handle.
