The rifle I want to build, dream or reality?

Hey all. So with the release coming of the SLR I really liked the idea of a AR style rifle that falls into the NR category that takes all AR parts which means I could build exactly what I want. But after actually sitting down and running through exactly what I wanted out of a NR black rifle I am slowly seeing that this may not be the option I want. I have an AR15 and a keltec SU16 for .223/5.56 fun guns and so if I were to build something up I would want it to be for both target shooting and hunting, so this is what I want in this rifle.

Able to shoot to 500+ yards with not to much trouble, further is better
Be a black rifle with AR ergonomics (think BCL 102)
Able to shoot with precision off the bench but also use for small game hunting (white tail deer and below)
Ability to be upgraded/customized as needed/wanted
Be fun to shoot and not have to to much recoil so the wife and older kids can shoot it as well

So with this in mind I started looking at both available rifles and different calibers. I really like the BCL 102 and the AR 10 platform but as far as the cartridge I think I have settled on the 6.5 creedmore. The ballistics of the 6.5 are slick as snot and while most effective out of a bolt rifle I think it will give me the performance and range I am looking for. I have heard that the 102 May come in 6.5 some day but when is anyone’s best guess. So what do you all think? Did I overlook a platform? Is there a build I could do for this? Or should I just count my pennies and wait to see if/when the BCL 102 or the wk-180c or something of the like rolls out in 6.5 Creedmoor? Thanks all and happy shooting!

I could be wrong but BCL has strongly been hinting on their Instagram of a 6.5 reveal set for March which will actually be the "Catamount" model. I'd sit back and wait a little longer.

6.5 is just a barrel swap away. While the platform is great I have not been impressed with the stock barrel.

Well after a bunch more looking around I have found that I am able to buy AR-10 receiver sets and build what I want to spec (teaches me to post before exhausting all searches). Looks like the procurement of an Aero Percision AR-10 upper and lower is in my future and build up from there. Will be a lot of work and a fair amount of money but I think a semi auto 6.5 creedmore AR platform that can play up close yet reach out and touch as well would be the ultimate NR. Starting to get excited

If you want to shoot deer and below, be able to teach new shooters including kids, and shoot to 5-600m, the AR-15 fow is ideal.
I would recommend chambering it in a 6mm or 6.5mm offering like 6mmAR turbo or 6.5 Grendel.

The AR-10 sized BCL would give you plenty of options, but I think slightly overkill for what you want. It will be heavy too.

You are aware that all ar10 rifle part from the bcl 102 and Alberta tacticle rifles Modern Hunter are restricted? Being so you could not hunt with them.

Also I do agree with beltfed, I would go with an NR ar rifle like the slr receiver set or the coming ATRS modern sporter receiver set and build it in 6.5 grendel for your need. But if you want something that you can enjoy shooting without breaking the bank and have the abilaty to find ammo I would stick with 223. With 223 you cam buy bulk 55gr. Ammo for approximately $400 for 1000 round and if you go hunting you can buy 77gr. Hunting ammo.

So are you meaning here that if I were to buy an AR10 receiver set and build the rifle I want it would be restricted? We’re as the BCL 102 and Modern hunter and other AR10 sold as complete rifles are NR? If so why is that the case?

The 102 is based off of a design that predates the ar15 where as modern ar10s are just up sized ar15s making them ar15 variants which are restricted by name. The modern hunter is its own design that uses proprietary parts. That is the simplest way I can put it. Currently the only true ar10 design that is NR would be the 102. The new brownells retro rifles should theoretically be the next NR ar10s we see here unless someone has something else pending that I haven't heard of.

Ahhhh ok seen. I was under the impression that the AR10 predated the AR15 and this made it NE if built with a long barrel. Thank you all for the reply’s it has really helped. Looks like a BCL 102 is in my future
