I was hanging out at the local g-store after work today...... Yeah I know.... and thats different how!
This older fella came in with a Model 70 WInchester in 300 win that he was going to put on consinement. While I was jawing with a couple of other guys I "over heard" that he was also interested in selling his reloading press and some other bits of reloading stuff....... Naturally I introduced myself
He is getting older ("I'm turning 71 next week" he says), he only wants to hang onto his old 30-30 and wants to sell off his stuff (most of it anyway) He also has a few #'s of powder and some .22LR he wants to sell.
I was thinking of picking up another press for my bench (yeah I know 2 is enough.... right!?) I wanted a RCBS but all I have the $$$ for is a lee, so I was waiting till after christmas.....
So I followed him home, with his permission of course.
He starts going through all of his cabinets and what not. Imagine my surprise when he pulls out an RCBS pess that is solid, and has absolutly no play.... and he still has all of the little bits and pieces that it came with from factory! Then he starts going through his ammo stash and pulls out some 12ga shot shells and some .22 ammo (He still wants to keep some as he is keeping a .22 & a 12ga along with his 30-30) then he pulls out his Powder Magazine and he has 9 #'s of powder that he wants to part with as well (9 full #'s I didn't want the opened/unsealed containers.... He understood...) plus a few hunderd (800ish) asorted primers, LR, SR, MR, SP & LP...... I was there for over an hour, Talking about places we've hunted and deer we didn't get and goose hunting and generally chewin the fat.
I was a little shell shocked! (punn intended) I told him I want it all but I probably can't afford it. I told him all I can afford right now is about $200..... I said I want the press and the powder, but I can't take all of that for a measly $200, I said how about the press and 5 lbs of powder... Seem fair?
He says well I tell ya what I don't need it.... How about I throw it all in for $200.
I say are you sure?
He says yup I'm sure.
So I go to the bank, I grab $240, I just don't feel right taking all of that for $200, go back to his place and he has all of the powder and the press and what not all packed up in a couple of boxes for me. I hand over the cash and we each take a box out to my vehical.
I get home and I got more than I was expecting..... He threw in a bunch of 30 cal bullets (from 110 gr to 200 gr) over 1000 bullets! Plus 200 30-06 brass and 150 300 mag brass! I called him up and he assured me it was not a mistake! He figgured it may as well go to someone who will use it! I said thank-you very much!
I figure I'll take him a goose or 2 and 20 lbs of sausage later on this fall.
He are some pics!
