They took a 77/17 and chambered it in .17 WSM, it looks like the bigger action version meant for the .17 hornet.

When the .17 WSM came out I got pretty excited for it but the B-mag seemed so hit and miss, its nice ruger has a solid rifle out for it now, a tad heavy though.

Who brings in rugers? I wonder when we'll see them here

I am a overbore cartridge tinkerer. 300 Rum, 338 rum and lapua, 375 Rum.

There comes a point were only so much power can be pushed through a tiny hole. The cost often is excessive bore erosion and muzzle blast. Some of the overbore Rums ...thinking 7 Rum vs 7 Wea...use 10 grains more powder for 100-200 fps more. I think that the WSM case is rather more efficient than a Rum, but this would seem to go well beyond reasonable return. I would think that a lot of people buying a 17 want the performance, but also the longevity of a 22 Hornet or even a rimfire. Factor in a much more expensive round to reload... hard to find projectiles....and the replacement of a barrel way quicker than the owner would be happy about.

Are you mixing 17hornet with wsm?

If anyone will, prophet river will....

When the rifle was announced in the US, I contacted Prophet River and was told it was at least a year till they could even order one. Last week, someone posted a thread on here that North Pro had some in stock, obviously the OP failed to use the search function. I managed to purchase one, and it showed up on Friday. I've already ordered a new trigger from Jard as the factory trigger is brutally heavy, well off my 5 pound scale, probably 7-8.

I see that the well detailed thread title on the 17 WSM's at North Pro is still on the first page here.......

Hahaha maybe look into what the 17 WSM is before you post things like this!!!! The '17 WSM' has nothing in common with its namesake 'WSM' centre fire versions. It looks like a 17 HMR on steroids, do some google research and you'll see what I mean. A nice little .17 bore, far less capacity than a .17 Hornet/Fireball/Rem, so I think barrel life should be acceptable.

Uh, no I saw that, and from what I read, it sounds like there were less than half a dozen that sold out in a day... So they're not really "available" now are they? A single small batch of rifles coming in once from a single retailer doesn't constitute enough rifles to be considered readily available for purchase except for those who check this website every 10 minutes....

Say if Korth is the importer of ruger (not sure just a guess) and they bring it in, in quantity and all the other retailers post them up for sale then their available, but until then, it doesn't sound like their really out yet.

Hmm, I figured Ruger would be along with a rifle in .17wsm but I expected it would be variation of the "American rim fire". Price will dictate wether or not it interests me I guess.

I'd bet they are saving the American for later on... let the expensive one sell for a bit and then bring out the big selling budget gun. At least that's what I'm hoping. Probably not this year, but hopefully in time for next year's gopher season.
