My three rifles from Frontier arrived today and I have spent hours checking them out and thought I would share.
The SKS is a 1952 Tula refurb from Bell. The numbers all match, but it has a laminated stock which appears to be the only part refurb'ed. It is in remarkably "like new" condition. The stock is dark tan with a slightly green hue to it. Somewhat different than what I have seen.
The second rifle is a Mosin Nagant M1891/30 from the Tula arsenal. The year is 1940. What can I say about this old guy except you know by just looking at him, he has been through the war. Not bad condition, but really shows the war wear. I am going to refinish the stock and do some restoration, after what he has been through I think it is deserved.
The third rifle is a SVT-40 interestingly a 1941 from the Kovrov arsenal. This arsenal only made SVT-40's for a year 1940-1941 which makes him a rarity. The receiver is grooved for the scope mount and the muzzle brake is the 6 a side vent on the earlier SVT-40's. The stock is in very good condition and a georgeous amber colour, but has three arsenal repairs (I wish I could work with wood this well). This seems to be very common on the SVT's as I have yet to see one for sale without the stock being repaired at some point. The bolt and trigger group has been forced matched and appears to be new replacements as there are no other serial numbers stamped or removed. They are also blued and not painted black. The magazine does not match the serial number, again very common on the SVT's. Would love another mag or two, but they are hard to come by, which is a puzzlement, as most of the rifles were supplied with two or three magazines. After I finish playing with them and get down to taking some pictures, I will post them. I think I will buy one more SKS with the thought of finding a "mint" one to pack away.
