My three rifles from Frontier arrived today and I have spent hours checking them out and thought I would share.
The SKS is a 1952 Tula refurb from Bell. The numbers all match, but it has a laminated stock which appears to be the only part refurb'ed. It is in remarkably "like new" condition. The stock is dark tan with a slightly green hue to it. Somewhat different than what I have seen.
The second rifle is a Mosin Nagant M1891/30 from the Tula arsenal. The year is 1940. What can I say about this old guy except you know by just looking at him, he has been through the war. Not bad condition, but really shows the war wear. I am going to refinish the stock and do some restoration, after what he has been through I think it is deserved.
The third rifle is a SVT-40 interestingly a 1941 from the Kovrov arsenal. This arsenal only made SVT-40's for a year 1940-1941 which makes him a rarity. The receiver is grooved for the scope mount and the muzzle brake is the 6 a side vent on the earlier SVT-40's. The stock is in very good condition and a georgeous amber colour, but has three arsenal repairs (I wish I could work with wood this well). This seems to be very common on the SVT's as I have yet to see one for sale without the stock being repaired at some point. The bolt and trigger group has been forced matched and appears to be new replacements as there are no other serial numbers stamped or removed. They are also blued and not painted black. The magazine does not match the serial number, again very common on the SVT's. Would love another mag or two, but they are hard to come by, which is a puzzlement, as most of the rifles were supplied with two or three magazines. After I finish playing with them and get down to taking some pictures, I will post them. I think I will buy one more SKS with the thought of finding a "mint" one to pack away.

The "Russian Collection"

i'm looking forward at makin a russian collection too.
i have the M91/30
still need to buy at least the SKS

it's so tough to find 7.62x54R these days...

Mighty jealous.

I'm holding back on the Mosins just cause of the ammo scarcity.
You should get a Tokarev to go with those.

The 14.5x114mm round is still made, but it is used in various anti aircraft systems so it is all HE or incendiary. So it is not able to be imported.
I still haven't fire the thing yet.

The SVT-40 is a Tokarov unless you were refering to the Tokarov T33 which I am getting this spring...Looking for mint with holster and spare clip...Also will be aquiring a Walther WWII P38 "take home" with holster and spare clip.

Price

how much you paid for the Kovrov SVT-40? Did you specifically ask for it? or is it just a random lucky pick?

I paid about $450 for the SVT-40 and asked specifically for a grooved scope mount version (sniper maybe). The grooves were discontinued in '42 so I ended up with the '41. I also wanted an early version with the 6 vent aside muzzle brake as I don't like the asthtetics of the two a side later ones. The fact that it is rare happened by chance (Kovrov Armoury). Frontier had two with scope grooves and two without, this is the one Marlin sent. I also bought their SVT-40 scope mount that is advertised on their website. The SKS now has a polished bolt instead of black paint. Some work on my part removing the paint and repolishing the bolt in my basement shop. Other than the refurb stock, I have been all over this rifle and it is darned near mint, numbers matching.

Yes sir... I know the SVT-40 was created by Mr. Tokarev.
I was referring to the TT-33 pistol in 7.62x25. When people say "Tokarev", they're usually referring to the pistol (yay?.. or nay?).

May I compliment you on your spelling, yes indeed it is Tokarev and yes I will be getting a T33 this spring. My vote on Yea or Nay is I call them both Takarev...

You were lucky as they are all mixed up after rebuild; early forties receiver with late 2 windows AVT recoil brake, with AVT or late Naval stocks or late single piece sling swivel.
The only all matching, bolt in white and correct SVT I've ever seen was a wartime US bring back.
