Don't know if this is a good idea or not, but there seems to be a lot of individual threads about the Savage 99.

So why not post all questions, pictures, comments, stories etc. about the Savage 99 here!

Here's mine. Model 99C Series A, in the .308 Win. serial # C142197.

For optics it has Weaver mounts (flip down) and a Bushnell 4x Banner scope.

Rifle has a tang safety, flip down rear sight, 4 round detachable mag. and swivel sling mounts.

That scope mount looks kinda neat, if you're one of those no-good right handed shooters, get everything handed to them.

I've got a 99c series A that was handed down to me. Grand-dad bought it new -about- 30 years ago. He missed a moose because "the gun didn't shoot worth s**t". My dad had it for a few years after that and shot about 7 moose with it. I shot 1 when I finally received it a few years ago. She still shoots pretty good groups even though shes been around, I still always take it hunting with me.

Comments? Okay, please send an 1899C in 38-55 to 3 Bow Ri....... LOL

Mine was to go out for it's 100th birthday this year but it didn't happen. Hopefully next year, but only if it's good.

Nice pics guys!

I just have the one....1899 takedown in .250-3000.
I lust after one of those A-model jobbies from the seventies for a huntin' rig. But I guess I'll just hunt with this one!

Charlie, that gun used to be a 99F (early version) but someone has put a model G forearm on it. The 250-3000 model had a pistol grip stock and curved lever.

Love the amount of case color still on the lever.

Yeah, MadDog, I figured it was an F. I recall we had a discussion about this rifle a couple years back, because the receiver is marked "1899 Model" even though the serial number puts it at 1923.

Kilo: did you check both forestock & butt to see which one is the matching numbers?? I have a 250 made in 1922 that has the straight grip non checkered butt like yours but my forestock is not checkered. As MDOG says i'd :D bet your butt is original & the forestock has been replaced.
The above 250 also has the exact same trigger as my 1920 Model 250-3000 which Murray states was the only model to have that trigger!
Does yours have the "cross-checkered" trigger as well?
& why does Murray call it "cross-checkered" when it's really just lined.
As with all old gun manufacturers there never were any hard fast rules. ;)

Because Randy, there were 3 variations of the model 250-3000, the early 99F like the one above wasn't one of them.

The first variation is like my 250-3000 (the original) which has the cross checkered trigger till around 195###, then the second variation came in with the lined trigger and moved on with the 99G. The G wasn't called the model 250-3000 because it was made in different calibers besides the 250-3000. Charlie's would be an F originally because it wears a straight grip lever, not a curved pistol grip lever unless some swapped that out to. Here's a pic of my trigger. The original model 250-3000 had a white bead front sight, cross checkered trigger and the Savage logo on the toe of the buttplate. Murray is a guide, not the bible of 99's, I've jotted down notes in mine all the time when I find mistakes in his book, it wasn't real accurate from what I know today.

Mine's the grooved trigger, not checkered.
Something occurred to me.....I bought that rifle off the rack at Epps. There were two .250's in the rack, this one and a pistol-gripped model with a checkered grip. Both had schnabel forends. The pistol-grip rifle had a tang sight, but I really don't recall whether the forestock was checkered. I wonder if it's possible the swap happened there?
I kick myself daily for not buying both rifles.

Too bad you can't get the infomation out of CFC for the serial number inside the forearm. If the rifle is registered and out there it could have your forearm on it. You could check with Epps, they will have who they sold the other firearm to. Worth a chance to get the original forearm back on the right rifles if that is what happened.
