The serial numbers on my Mosin bolt are dirty/faded..

Got the rifle last year and even though it was a refurb I could clearly see the numbers stated.. now the silver seems to have turned into a dull brown and I have to angle the bolt towards the light to see the numbers (they still arent very clear)

What could possibly cause this? And what could fix it? I'm not going to take steel wool to it or something, haha.

The Mosin bolt is in the white. Sounds like yours is starting to rust... Some fine steel wool and a good gun oil should get it back to how it used to be. Mosin bolts always need a light coat of oil to prevent rusting in humid locales.
