About a year ago, I bought a pistol with a single point on it. If you aren't familiar, this is a design that dates back to around 1970 and was the first occluded eye gunsight to reach the market.

These are an ingenious design that takes advantage of binocular vision - you look "through" the sight with the dominant eye and the non-dominate eye stays open. The effect is a red dot is projected onto the target, even though you cannot see "through" the scope.

These were popular with carbine and handgun shooters in the 70';s and 80's as I understand things. Today, this one sits atop my High Standard Victory pistol.

Here's a great article on them - there was a few variants, all basically the same design with slight improvements over time. It works remarkably well even in fairly low light.

The grand-pappy of all red dot sights that exist today!

I have had one since the 70's. Fantastic sight with a great concept, forces you to shoot with both eyes open ( which is a good thing). One draw back was the size of the dot mine was a 16 min. dot which equates to 16" at 100 yrds not very good for precision shooting. Mine sits on my 12 ga. wingmaster and is my turkey gun shoots out to 40 yrds no problem.
No batteries to change and no switches to turn on.

Got mine the first year they came out, 1968 if I remember correctly. Had it on several rifles, but the most fun was when it went on the 444 Marlin. That outfit was so good we could hit thrown aerial targets with it.

Shooting with both eyes open was truly an eye opener! Helped me learn to do the same with my old Husqvarna 358 Norma Mag and Leupold 3X. Still doing it today with my boomers.
