About a year ago, I bought a pistol with a single point on it. If you aren't familiar, this is a design that dates back to around 1970 and was the first occluded eye gunsight to reach the market.
These are an ingenious design that takes advantage of binocular vision - you look "through" the sight with the dominant eye and the non-dominate eye stays open. The effect is a red dot is projected onto the target, even though you cannot see "through" the scope.
These were popular with carbine and handgun shooters in the 70';s and 80's as I understand things. Today, this one sits atop my High Standard Victory pistol.
Here's a great article on them - there was a few variants, all basically the same design with slight improvements over time. It works remarkably well even in fairly low light.
The grand-pappy of all red dot sights that exist today!
