Like I said on another post I did sold a SSG rifle 20 years ago and regret it ever since. Last week I just finally get a 2004 made Steir-Mannlicher SSG 69 mounted with a Kahles ZFM 6X42. The gun is in "new" condition. I will try to get another 5 round rotary mag and a 10 rounder. For now I just have to wait for Saturday to head to the shooting range! :sniper:

The older one did not have a rail like this

Thanks for your comments. For the moment I am waiting a reply from North Sylva to get some more magazines.

Great thread man. Nice to see another devotee of the green rifle. I have bought three of these in the last few years, one of which is a 2004 package with the ZFM installed at the factory, just like yours.

1989 SSG69 with S&B PMII (this set-up is no longer together, as the scope has moved to another rifle I will be posting about soon!)
1981 SSG69 (still waiting on 26mm rings from Austria so I can put this together with a beautiful old ZF69 from the 1970s)
2004 SSG69 with newer-style ("coin" adjustable settings on the turrets) ZFM 6x42

This is the 1981 rifle I am waiting on parts for. This one does not have the "Anschutz"-style rail in the stock. The other two do have it.

The 1989 rifle when it was all together. I want to find an appropriate Kahles or Swarovski 10x military-type scope for this one now.

Does the new CGN format, limit how many pictures you can put in a post?

I'm trying to put that 1981 rifle together so it looks very close to this, and Austrian Army issued rifle: older style scope with "three screw" adjustable turrets, no rail, leather sling.

I few years ago I used to have an S&B 2.5-10x40 Summitt on the 1989 rifle, seen here with the 2004 rifle.

Now the S&B Summitt is on this 2010 Scout:

Love these guns!

Where did you get the 2004 rifle/scope/rings/sling/case package? Mine came from Phil O'Dell.

BTW, contact Phil O'Dell, O'Dell Engineering (I think he is "OdellEng", or something like that, here on CGN) regarding mags.

Great collection Ghostie, I'm jealous! I saw the serial number on your older SSG in another post and my older one that I sold many years ago was at few digit away from yours. I did get the rifle from a private seller. I am planning to get some more mags and maybe next year I would like to grab a Scout Rifle in .308.

I had two over the years but sold them. I liked them very much, accurate, adjustable stock length and smooth action.

I would have another one if it had a wooden or HS Precision stock, improved mag locking system, and metal trigger guard.
I think the synthetic material used in the stock and mags would be prone to deteriorate over time.

I saw a Steyr at the Truro gun show last weekend it was the hunting model, green stock.
It came with a vertical crack at the wrist, the dealer wanted over $1450 for it.

I have the Styer SSG PII .308 and love the rifle! Only small issue is my bolt....I wish it was a little more easier to load a cartridge and unload. I have only put 62 rounds through it, so it may just require more working in.

I know that some hunting versions are made with very much thinner stocks (I can't tell if they are even made of Cycolac) than the military versions like the SSG and some were prone to cracking near the safety switch.

Recently I have fallen from the pure faith of Austrian rifles, and have acquired something made in England of all places! This is the "tank" version of the green rifle (the Steyr is more of a lightly armoured recon vehicle). This is the scope that used to be on my 1989 SSG. The scope mounts aren't tightened up. I just put it together to see what it would look like. I'm going to try this one out tomorrow for the first time, but I still love my Steyrs and I'm still working on a few Steyr "projects" that I'll be posting on in the coming months. Lots more to come on the AW too.

Nice looking rifle. Is that a Zeiss Conquest with a 1" tube? And, are you using the regular old Steyr QD rings in a 1"?

The reason I ask is because I was thinking about using a Zeiss Conquest on an SSG in .22-250 (Phil O'Dell brought some in), mounting a Conquest 6.5-20X50 with the Varmint reticle on 1" Steyr QD rings. Since you seem to have a similar looking set-up, I thought I'd ask how you've found it working out for you.

The alternative for me (if I do that project) would be to get the Pic rail adapter, and then use some more commonly available type of rings.

I'm using the Picatinny rail adapter with Leupold QRW 1 inch rings, and yes the optic is a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44.

It's a wonderful combination, makes the rifle light enough for me to sling it over my back and go hiking off to my woods range, yet has excellent clear glass, and all the magnification I need. I got the Pic rail from Phil, a pain in the ass to get it on the rifle, but once it's on it's never coming off (especially once the set screws are tightened).
