Umm... anyway... having a feeling I will regret posting this...

Basically, course of fire is use a centrefire AR-15 chambered in .223/5.56mm, fire 30 rounds at a foot square target 20 yards - 25 metres away as rapidly as possible. You must get 90% hits for it to count (i.e. 27 rounds). Fastest time wins title of Stupidest Attempt at Banning Guns.

1) Canada - you must use 5 round magazines (i.e. no pistol mags, unless loaded with 5 rounds);
2) California - must be a post-ban California spec. gun with post-ban ten-round magazines/bullet button (or in-built magazine);
3) UK - must use a 30-round or larger magazine.

Helps if you have a shot timer, but a friend with a stopwatch will suffice. If he can hold a video camera at the same time and video you doing it, we would have evidence.

Any shooting position, but I'm guessing off-hand will look cooler on video.

My best time so far is 36 seconds (which I did off-hand), one of the British shooters claims a time of 22.5 seconds, using one of the rifles in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTHECgM1APQ - assume less need to aim and grabbing the trigger at the shorter range. In any event that guy shooting at that speed could clearly beat 36 seconds by a significant margin.

Bear in mind this is a speed challenge, there's no difference in accuracy regardless of jurisdiction. I suppose there is no actual need to use an AR-15, you can use some other semi-auto .223 but it would make comparison easier.
