The Toronto Sportsman Show

I'm a bit confused here, I looked at the exibitor list and could see only Stoegar Canada for firearms dealers!
There used to be a lot of gun stores and manfacturers there....

Its been a camping and kayak show for a few years now. Not worth going if you ask me........but I dont visit Toronto unless absolutely neccessary.

not sure if yall are interested but Bass Pro has a bit of a show going on as well during march break. Check out their website. They have the big buck trailer coming up from HQ, quite a site ta see. They will also be scoring big bucks, hopefully for prizes:D .

Best part is ya can go across the street for a drink that dosen't cost $8!

Also its north of T.O. by a bit so ya dont have to go down to the festering, Lieberal loving, $hit hole!

The only reason I will be attending is for the Turkey course offered by OFAH.
I've registered for the turkey course as well. I'm going on the Saturday - Mar. 18. Can't beat that package deal, eh?

I have not been in a few years either. But I did enjoy the show, there was something for everybody I thought. Guns, bows, fishing stuff, boats, outfitters, etc etc, I could easily spend a couple days in the place. I imagine that there are indeed less firearms there these days because of all the red tape. Exhibitor fees are quite steep, so if a company is going to spend the time and resources to have a display booth, they have to have an expectation of a decent return on their investment. I know one guy who used to attend every year as an exhibitor - last time I was down there he was saying that it cost him some extravagant amount of money for the ten days he had to be there, so that would be his last year. (That was #### Swan, for those that know him, inventor of the noodle rod.)

If I lived close to TO, I would go just for old times sake!

Doug

PS to Skippy) nope, no milsurps that I ever recall seeing.........

Lots of milsurp places, but not for guns. Just surplus clothes, webbing, knives etc.
There is usually close to a dozen places.
That being said, its not close to what it used to be, its more of a camping and kayaking show.
There has actually been more guns in the last three years than the previous seven before that though...
I work down there prostaffing for a few fishing related companies, and its usually a good go for fishing stuff.
Its normally the last show for most of the fishing retailers, so the prices are usually good if not better than the Spring fishing show.
there should be a whack of turkey stuff down there, and a tonne of boats to look at too.
C'mon Doug, up for a roadtrip?

BPS tried to do the same thing last year and offset the attendance of the Sportsmen show. (I was working both)
Lets just say that those who went to BPS went to the sportsmens show for the deals anyways. Other than a few doorcrashers that are usually sold out in the first day, BPS is the same old ####, and same price...

The last time I was there was about four years ago, and it was extremely disappointing. For the $12 entry there was nothing to do with guns there, and it seemed more like a flea market than a show.

I keep seeing ads flogging the hunting aspect of the show, and that it is returning to its roots of being a hunting and fishing show as in the past. Since the fall hunting show was canned, this is supposed to be its replacement. Was hunting advertised last year, and were there any hunting exibitors?

Ya I will probably go, even though there will be probably next to not a whole lot of actual hunting things there. Even though they do advertise the "hunting hall". You never really seem to find any real deals on anything there too much anymore, just things that places cant sell the previous year. But you can usually find some deals on meat sticks and cheese though.:D

think i'll bring down future hunter to see if i can get him into one of the turkey courses. then let him play with some toys

One entire hall has been used for Hunting for the last few years. Several gun clubs are now exhibiting, there are a couple of archery ranges.

Guns are definitely back in Toronto. If more people and clubs show up, it may even grow a bit.

It would be nice to have a hunting club next to a kayak booth. We may even convert a few.

McCoy Transfer has a package out of Kingston to the show and then to Bass Pro. I got a seat. This will be my first one and I'm looking forward to it. For 59 bucks its cheaper than gas and I can enjoy the 8 dollar beer. :p
