Milspec refers to actual government military specifactions this often changes due to requirements .Milspec reaps great rewards to the manufacturers peddling there wares to us lowly civilians hell most of us would buy sh*tty products if it were merly label MilSpec/ offical government issue

Thats a fact.........Point in case a can of mil-spec boot waterproofing.......CRAP but sells at surplus stores for twice what a can of snow seal goes for....BUT Sno Seal is not MIL-SPEC

Funny, back in the day things were the other way around. A Colt 1911 commercial model would have much better fit and finish than its "milspec" counterparts and would accordingly sell at a premium. Ditto for Browning Hi-Power and many other firearms.

The main issue in AR's is with MilSpec parts or finish you know your getting something at the type A standard.

Due to the softness of Aluminum you dont want a non Type III HCA finish.
Since AR's are plug and play you want a gun that follows as close to the TDP as possible so you can fully plug and play (allowing for lack of civilian automatic/select fire so you never will truly get a TDP/MilSpec gun in civilians hands these days).

That is just 1911. You know the Commerical FN FAL sporters? They cast their receivers to save money for the civie chumps, but sure they look good......

unfortunately, all the commerical market cares about is "fit and finish". As long as it is shiny on the outside it must be better than the ugly looking military issued. - it is not difficult to make things look good on the surface but the inside is crap.

That's the reason there is a full parade of companies that makes good looking ARs and skip all the things that matter. People buy stuff as long as it is cheap, the upper doesn't wobble in the lower and there is not a scratch on the barrel.

On the other hand, it will be impossible for Small companies like Armalite or RRA to apply certain acceptance method imposed by the government and large contracts. At the end of the day, you need to figure out what you want out of your money.

My opinion is that people need to use a bit of research and judgement to figure out what it is when "milspec" is advertised.

Not all military specifications make sense, becasue the end users are different.

However, when it comes to AR15 - some companies are not doing the same thing simply it cuts into their profit margin or they don't have the capital investment to carry out the steps.

For years, manufacturers were telling people chromelined barrel is not "accurate" and they dont need chromelining - well becasue chromeling costs money and adds an extra step to manage the production schedule......Some will skip MPI/HPT becasue the costs of replacing broken bolts costs less than the time, money, capital investment and scheduling burden than implementing and carrying testing procedures. This is just typical AMerican way of doing things - it like calculating the cost of recall vs the risk of law suits if the cars burst into flame

From my dealings in the manufacturing industry Mil-Spec seems to be the standard they use in constructing products submitted for purchase consideration or tender for military contracts.

These are their internal quality controls

The RN would have flushed the subs out with fresh water before storing them. but they forgot that truly retards

The deterioration of the subs had a lot more to do with the length of time it took the Canadian gov't to finalize the deal and then pick them up than, to do with the way the RN dry docked them. The ten years our gov't screwed around was the major factor with regards to the shape in which we received them.... enough on that. The Canadian gov't and Navy learned some very valuable and costly lessons

back on topic... my army issue sun screen is mil spec

Mil Spec buffer tube size..

We can all agree that Kevin B is about as Mil spec as it gets...and sure enough..as was noted before somewhere....his buffer tube is smaller than the rest...
