The Underappreciated .358 Winchester

I have always respected this cartridge for what it was, and a damed fine one at that. Loaded with 220grainers, or loaded down with 150s its a great one, and many can be found in almost every northern Ontario Hunt camp.
Seen first hand the power 100 yards in, to flatten the biggest of black bear and/or bull moose there is never mind a great pick for heavy cover whitetails. The necked up 308 is not that far behind thenecked up 30-06!

i like the 358 cause its chambered in a pre 81 blr. one of my favorites. even with 220 to 250 grn load recoil in a light rifle is still ok. very efficent case that gives good velosity even with a short 20 inch barrel. i would think with a bolt rifle and a longer lenth barrel it would be very impressive.

If it wasn't for the Whelen I already own, I'd have a Model Seven rebarreled with a 20" 358W bbl.

Heck, I even have dies, but no rifle to match. :)
