The VZ/CZ Gremlin is in every gun... it's a timing thing:

So...

I became interested in the "revised" bolt-carrier that all of our brothers and sisters in the USA are getting from CZ with their rifles. I thought "Ok, there must be an issue for the significant revision."

I then heard from a friend that he experienced the Gremlin over the weekend while firing rapidly. I then tried to recreate the "Gremlin" and was successful in doing so.

Basically if the shooter pulls & holds the trigger at anytime after firing while the bolt is still in motion... the mysterious Gremlin occurs:

The modified bolt carrier (I modified this one myself - a copy of the USA Bolt Carrier)

...fixes the problem as seen in this video:

*Anyone who is experiencing the Gremlin under normal shooting circumstances (slow benchrest type shooting) has other more serious issues (i.e. it's not a timing problem at this point, but rather weak springs or broken parts.)*

There you have it... the only fix is a revised Bolt Carrier (or "normal" shooting) :)
Carry on.

good work ... i like this remedy better than filing the sear .

now , tell us how to make the tab for the carrier.

that tab you added, it basically advances the timing of the sear resetting I take it? I was also able to simulate that skipped sear catch by pulling the trigger while moving the action, and the distance that tab offsets the resetting would definitely prevent such a skip (by ensuring that the trigger is always disconnected during the point in the cycle the sear is supposed to catch the striker). very well done!

Thanks.

I didn't think the answer was in filing parts :)
It also helps that CZ makes the part in the first place which pointed me in this direction.

Ideally we should be able to order these bolt carriers from CZ; I hope that day comes.

Anyway, I just bought a small 1'x1' of sheet metal (around 2mm thick) and literally cut-out a piece then used a file to get the right shape. My friend was a welder and I welded it on (weld looks horrible - no pics :D).

Voila~!

Good work!

Only I think you may have chosen metal that is too thin. I would have gone for something about 1/8" thick. Otherwise very well done.

this is what I've been saying.
I've got some 4130 plate on order to tab up some carriers.
I would suggest a hillbilly heat treat on that tab, especially if it is made from mild steel.

Soooo, How much would it cost to have one done up?

A better question is, If these rifles are under warranty/guarantee should they be covered? or new bolt carriers be supplied?

All I want is to be able to order a new bolt carrier with the tab in place from CZ... I don't know why this is so hard. :(

Any CZ distributors able to chime in?

My first post on the 58. We knew about the Gremlin shortly after. The company that makes them should wake the F-up and correct this.

However, thanks team for thinking outside the box.

I wonder if Marstar or Wolverine will be able to correct this? Even if it is a minimal cost to me. Even though Ive only fired about 2 boxes out of this one I don't want any problems later on.

My personal take is that CZ will never send out free 'revised bolt carriers' to every single 58/858 that has been sold in Canada (it's not causing a dangerous condition to the shooter - it's an inconvenience).

However, I would be more than willing to buy one.
They are going for $35USD for a new revised bolt carrier from CZ in the USA (but they don't ship to Canada). Would/could Wolverine bring these in??

Again, I've never experienced the problem when shooting... and it shouldn't ever cause a problem. If one were to try doing some really fast <cough> bump-fire <cough> shooting, they'd most certainly experience the problem as they'd be working the trigger faster than the bolt.

If anyone is experiencing the Gremlin under normal shooting conditions (and I know there are a few people), you're unlucky and it could be a weak 'trigger mechanism feather', or something else that will require some new parts other than the 'revised bolt carrier.'

Either way, it would be nice to have the 'revised bolt carrier' to rule out timing as an issue when it comes time to troubleshooting. It's also nice to be current :D

lets see... without FA sear i have gremlin , with FA sear i have prohib ..... hhmmmm , which one i prefer ? :D

Lets face it the reason this happens is because the gun was made as a full/ semi auto and they guns really are converted autos.
I know i know, dont say it the antis, popo ect was ban them!!!!
But what i,m trying to to say is that it is a timeing issue as stated . because the gun is converted to semi not built as a semi auto.
I hope your fix works, post back when you have shot 2,3 k, it would be good to know.

Tabbed carriers can be had for about $35 USD in the US, I would expect a little bit for for the Canadian market mostly to do with the dollar right now. From what I know there are a couple sources working on bringing them in, these are factory parts so you should be able to expect factory quality and consistancy.
