Just finalizing my order with Gary from Wanstalls.

Narrowed it Down to:

The Costa Recon

Or

T3 Comp

Or

Talon II Bobtail

Anyone have any input on any of the above models?

Wanstalls has a T3 Comp in stock, otherwise it is a minimum 6-8 month lead time

Thanks!

I'm not sure why you are considering the T3 Comp but I do suggest that you do some reading on the pros and cons of compensators particularly with the 45 ACP. Most of what I have read questions the value of the comp in 45 ACP because it's a low pressure cartridge and doesn't produce the gas flows to operate a comp effectively.

My limited experience with comps is with IPSC indoor matches. The race guns that do use higher pressure loads are loud and generate a lot of flash. Note that NHC doesn't recommend night sights or fibre optics because of the flash that would ruin those sights in short order. You can read more by searching the 1911 forums.

I do own a NHC Predator II and am very pleased with it. I'd be happy to have either the Costa or the Marvel editions just based on the cool factor alone. Experienced people have tried my gun and rate it very highly.

PS. Ellwood Epps may still have a Talon Bobtail in stock.

Great advice, the comp came into play as it is in stock. Epps does have a Talon, but in 9mm...

I'm glad I got my Night Hawk when I did. I'm getting too old to wait out the current lead times. Night Hawk has several models that would interest me just because they are different. I selected quite a few options to make my gun "mine". I've never regretted my choices.

Costa or Talon...You can't go wrong with a Nighthawk! (good choice)
But as hercster said order one and select a few options that will make the gun yours! ;)
That is what I did with Les Baer and I have a unique pistol!

OK

Holy Hercules that's a gorgeous pistol!! I used to think 1911's were pretty much all the same. You can see the extra precision maching and fit. WOW!

Don't get the costa rican...I love costa and all, but that lame play on words should NOT be rewarded with sales!

Decisions, decisions

But man, I do like the Costa model......

Mr. Shooter,

I doubt that NHC makes a bad model. Once you are in this ballpark, ya gotta go where your lust takes you. If there's a particular feature you don't like or want to change, there's a good chance NHC will do it for you.

Since I have a Predator II, obviously I have learned an attachment to the gun. But let's just say that the Costa and PredatorII are equals.

I spent the night at one of my ranges in the company of the owner of the facility. He has seen 1000's of guns pass through and says without equivocation that my NHC is the finest 1911 he has seen and shot in his entire experience.

To night, I got some coaching from the owner and operator of a local shooting academy. He has taught 100's of qualified shooters including many LEO's and other professionals. He asked if he could try my NHC. His reaction (I'm quoting him) "This is the softest nicest shooting .45 ACP ever..." followed by a confessiion that his nipples had gotten hard. I kid you not and there were other words of amazement. Later in the evening he asked if he could try the gun again.

My advice? Indulge your fantasies! You are only a youngster for a short time and the world keeps pushing us to grow up

Well.....I too must have hard nipples, Costa it is. Order being confirmed tomorrow. Then the wait truly begins!

Thanks Hercster, much appreciated!

Going to discuss with Gary tomorrow, but I think I'm going as it comes. But, we'll see what advice Gary has. Do you have any suggestions?

Not really as these are personal things...but it's something you should think about!

Example: I added an arched mainspring housing and I took off the front cocking serrations...to each his own! I just like to have a different set-up and a ''unique'' gun! It takes so long to get might as well get it the way YOU like it!

OK:)

What model are you going to order the full size or the compact? I like commander sized guns as to me they balance better and just look more balanced visually.

I really like the feel of the Bobtail but not all do. I'd get it on the compact.

Either way, I would want adjustable sights but that really depends on how you will use the gun. I suspect carry is not an option.

I really like the fibre optic FS and have one on two of my guns. Green is better than Red to me.

For most of us north of the 49th, the night sights are useless. My preference is plain black in the rear and FO green in front.

I question the value of a rail once again for most of us.

My Costa would be a compact with the sights as above and likely with a Bobtail.

Dang I love spending other people's money. :p

Good luck with your order! It might take a while, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. They have a year long waitlist right now.

I ordered my Predator through Gary back in November, was told a 4-6 month wait... still waiting... Can't wait... but... then again.. I could wait a little longer. Damn thing is expensive!

Email order sent to Gary.

Costa Recon (full size)
Rear sight is Jardine Tactical, cannot be changed
Front is Fiber optic standard, but I think I'm going with tritium.

How do you like your chain link stippling vs traditional 20 lpi?

Do you know what the aftec extractor upgrade is?

Thanks for all the input and time!

Mr. Shooter,

I think I would like that rear sight but I would stick with the FO and as I said ask for green or change that yourself as it is easy to do and cheap. I bought a bunch of filaments from Dawson and can change them out in two minutes if and when necessary which is seldom. To me the tritium is good in the dark or near dark when I never shoot. The FO amplifies existing light and is useful for most of the situations where I shoot including poor indoor range light. The combo of plain black in the rear with a FO front is the fastest target acquisition set up. I mostly shoot the action games and that is where the FO shines.

I really like the chain link on the front and back straps of my gun. The grip is excellent without being aggressive. The appearance is a bonus and just looks uber cool to me.

You are going to like the G-10 grips and particularly the thumb cut which is very functional IMO.

The Aftec is an "advanced" design that has a very good repuputation. It is a two piece affair with a separate spring. I'm not sure if it is a good value. I bought a spare fitted extractor with my gun which I think is a good option and good insurance.

If you are going to buy extra mags, I will tell you what I did and why. I'm assuming the mags supplied are made by ACT. I have 12 of them.

Other than that all I can say is that I'm envious of everything except the waiting.

If you need a holster, I will tell you what I did and why. PM me and I will give you my reasoning based on your planned usage of the pistol.

Gord
