Ya I'm at it again. I will host a shoot to a mile with the theme being the majority use 308 rifles. The fee for my shoots is to help out with the fuel costs and other expenses, by donation. I will have 2 targets at the mile so if other calibers come they can mark it up and not mark the 308 target. Set up in the morning, shoot, retrieve targets and go home/ back to motel. Maybe have a refreshment around a campfire after shooting. There is enough room for everyone to set up their benches. Shooting line is 100 feet long.
You must belong to a club that carries insurance or have a membership in the NFA with insurance(click on banner above). Dems the rules for shooting on private land.
Build a bench if you don't already have one. They make it easier to see over the humps in the field / snowbanks. Winter camping hmmm. There will be another shoot or 2 later this year as well(sept 22-23).

There will be a target at 500, 1000, 1400, 1500, 2 at 1760 and that's it. Interested PM me.
My range rules.
Safe gun handling.
Muzzle points to the sky or the ground , no sweeping other shooters.
Bolt open or out from case to shooting line and from shooting line to case.
Bolt open when gun is not attended on shooting line.
No gun fondling while people down range.
No restricteds.
You must belong to a gun club, or be an NFA member with insurance.
And I'm kinda a safety nut, so everyone goes home in one piece.
I'm the self appointed range officer as well.
Oh and the guns go away when the alcohol comes out to play.

I punched the numbers and I think its is doable. 155gr lapua scenars @ 3000fps.
maximum height at 171 yards, after that its falling out of the sky. 89moa or 1682 inch or 140 foot drop. Still at 932 fps at 1800 yards. Drops through the speed of sound after 1400. 3.5 seconds to reach the target. I'll be using a Savage model 12 F-TR 30 inch pipe. With I don't know how many shim's under the scope base.
I seem to recall I need 89 moa to reach 1760 yards. When I calculated it, I think I was almost 20 MOA shy so I will shim it 30 MOA to be safe. I can shim it and then use Burris signature Z rings with the inserts. LIG

If theres any that want a motel hotel I can phone around and maybe get a group rate or something.
The bullets for this 308 to a mile consist of
Nosler CC;s 155 gr.
Chinchaga 176 gr RBT ULD ST
Chinchaga 205 gr RBT ULD ST
I'm using powder that I have on hand IMR 4064, I know R17 would be better for the heavies, but its a 3 hour drive to get it. Reloading starts today.
They will all be loaded just shy of primer flattening. Group size well its a mile!! Lets get it there first.

well i am in for sure at this one Hugh. since work decided to mess up the last trip for your shoot , i will try to persuade Bullwhip and Werewolf to come out also

How romantic is Peace River in the middle of February........?:bigHug:

Well, an oldtimer told me you get out of it what you put into it. So having said that, a massage then a trip down to the River RocK Steakhouse, then the rest is up to you.

I don't have a entire build just a refit in the scope department. 30 thou in shims under the rear base. Thankfully I have Burris Z ring with inserts.
7 interested so far.

12 interested. This weather s*cks. -25, -24, now its blowing 20km hour winds at -14 giving a -24 wind chill. Now the greatest for putting tin on eh. Wood stove is in new house and hooked up and I had the first burn today.
I located 5 different brass shim materials today. 1 thou is 1 moa right? Where to buy longer screws?

well i have come up with a solution to the need for more moa i have found a source for rings and base that will give 40 moa on a savage short action so this should be close to making it in the elevation department now i just need to push the load up to 3700fps and all will be good

I let you know if my little trick with the 45 thou in shims and 10moa in rings, 100 in scope and 10 in reticle, 70 feet in tree, works. Projectiles are ready. Target has the impacts painted white. Fluorescent orange goes on tuesday. I hope to test the theory this week. LIG

Where is this happening?

14 hours and 4 minutes north west of Nokomis.
Sorry I failed to mention location. It is at a private shooting spot 20 km south of Peace River AB
The spot is a 1 mile long flat field, with a 4.5 mile clear template behind it.

I have to contact Peace Valley Inns I am told they will give group rates.

I think that might not be such a good idea. What if you don't see it for 10 months!! Target didn't get painted yet. Busy busy busy.
Oh great the new flashing is all bent to crap. Another week to wait. f:P:

Ah right! He would have it done before the shoot. If you already had the barrel. Its a 4 month wait list for krieger barrels! lol
Remember its an experiment. Burn some throat out of the old one and save the new one for when it counts.

BCMI Inns has the best group rate at $83 for a double occupancy, 2 beds.
The different group rates are $83, $97, $119 and $129 all for 2 people 2 beds. I've never been in any hotel here so the onus is on you!! Oh the $97 dollar one Peace Valley Inn has a bar and restaurant.
Or there is a spot for anyone brave enough to try winter camping, haha. Just let me know how big of a spot to plow snow.
