If a bear were to be in my yard, threatening my dogs, causing damage and havoc, would I get in big trouble killing it? I suppose you would, but this is all theory. If I feared for my life might be a different outcome? And yes I already know about "Know your target and beyond" so don't even start on that :p

If there is a bear in your yard in or around moose jaw, PUT DOWN THE PIPE. Seriously though, if there was a bear on MY property threatening MY dog I don't think the consequences of my actions would be the first thing on my mind. The bear dies.

Granted. If there was a bear in MY yard at this present time, I would have to start asking some questions... How about a moose? That wouldn't be exactly impossible. There was one in regina last week wondering around behind peoples houses. Although it didn't do anything wrong, so they just made it go sleepy time and put it back where it belonged (I believe that's what happened anyways..)

If you are in a legal to shoot area, thn there is no question

I tolerate bears in my yard only so much...Most have gone on to live good lives, some have not

do you worry about legalities when you fear for your life, or you are protecting the life of a pet/animal? No.. the wildlife act gives you the right to protect yourself, your animals and your property.. (go read it.. it's good to know)

if the city comes.. and gives you a fine for breaking a bylaw (Discharge).. then pay it and get on with life..

As long as it is legal to discharge a firearm where you live(for me it's not) the bear dies.

A bear's place is in the woods, not in your backyard.

I would invite him into the house for tea and dainties. Then I would get Pamela Anderson to come over and rub his tummy ( And mine too :D)

Read the question. There is a good chance you will get into trouble. Wether it would be worth it or not was not the question. Wether the charges would hold up in court,or not, was not the question. Maybe you can start that thread. Its only been done about 1800 times

Hahahahah that funny.. you honestly think an LEO is going to know this.

Just go read the Fish and Wildlife act for your province.. it's clear in those legislations what you are allowed to do.

the best thing to EVER do to cover your own butt is call your local Fish and Wildlife or Conservation Officer they are the law and will decide what lives and dies. I know alot of ranchers tat get permission ahead of time to protect themselves and there families.

a friend lives down by the Red Deer River and he has a deer problem. they feast on his hay bails in the winter time. he has permits to shoot the deer. this way the CO officer doesn't have to drive the hours out to his house to "chase" away the deer.

as far as bears or possibly dangerous animals. same thing. talk to a CO and play the "what if" game with them. i'm pretty sure the only way they will give you permission to kill is if the bear or whatever is banging down your door. or if your kid/spouse is out side and you can't get them in.(they don't care about your dog).

trust me, just call your local CO. and they will tell you what to do.

I'm not a fish and game officer, but I was in the same situation. A bear showed up approximatley 12 yards from my front door. I called the local DFO guy and asked nicely if I could kill it. He said that they rules in Nova Scotia allowed for killing animals out of season only if they are destroying property. We discused the value and what damage was. That was open to a lot of interpertation. However the guys I talked with were more that reasonable. They will issue permits to destroy if the bear is a problem. A phone call can save you a lot of problems. To end my story no I didn't shoot it.

Buddy....your in Moose Jaw!? Like if anyone will know you if you killed a bear that was harassing your dogs.

I have had a similar problem with a brave one who keeps coming into the yard and takes a dump by the fire pit and by the bbq, which is with in a few steps of the door to cabin. This has been going on for two years, this spring. It's going on the bbq!!!!!! If, I catch the bugger
