To my surprise, I had inquired with my favorite local gun shop if a '06 model Sako 75 S/S Varminter in 243 Win was still available....long story short....they called Stoger right away for me and low and behold the quick answer was no but they continued to inform me that they had ONE in 260 Rem that was reduced.....well everyone has reduced rifles right now I'm thinkin' ......but the price I heard on the receiver just about made me drop the phone! $1095 NEW   :D I already have a Remington BDL S/S DM in 260 with a Hogue stock which has spelt the end to many dirt pigs...but a heavy fluted Sako 75 with a detachable mag and 23 5/8" barrel with 1:9 ROT...CHA CHING! I quickly told him to get that rifle shipped today to them and I'll be picking her up in a couple weeks:dancingbanana: Extra mag ordered at the same time as the 75's are being replaced in '07 with 85's. Gotta love those small gun shops that go the distance for good customers:D Deals like that I'll find the $$$$ for!

i think the sako dealers are just trying to move the 75's because when people hold the 85's they will never go back, the weight difference is immense, the 75 is now officially a boat anchor!!

Why would Sako be blowing out the 260's in particular? Only reason I can think of is lack of factory ammo available. I personally love the 260 Rem and the 6.5 bullet performance. I was happy to get this configuration as it will really let the long range potential of this cartridge shine. Will likely load Nosler 120 Bt's for slaying dirt pigs and coyotes and use Lapua's in the 120 grain area for target ....and maybe dirt pigs too depending on consistancy and effectiveness on target. This rig should easily be able to make that illusive 500 yard kill on the hawgs if I do my bit. Can't wait for March now!!! A new 220 Swift VS SF and now a Sako 75 Varminter.....there will be blood splatter all over the alphafa feilds this spring.

Thinking of going large with the scope magnification....likely 6.5-20x40 with a mildot or TMR reticle...could even be a target turret version for quick MOA adjustment.

The 85 varmit is identical to the 75 in most ways... it is available in .223 and 22-250 with a set trigger in Canada.
The price on the 85 varminter is about $2000.00.

Ive called around to many gunshops in Canada looking for a 75 Finnlight in a 7mm mag. Very hard to find new 75's being they are discontinued but the ones that are on the sheves are selling for $1299. Awsome price for an ousting piece of shootin iron:D

Only two reasons why they'd be dumping 260's for low coin.
One, the rifles so chambered are not selling, or two, Remington has let them know they are dropping the cartridge.

First - good score on that rifle Chilly...

Second - Who cares if they are "dumping .260's for low coin"??? That's just a bonus for buyers. And even if Remington is dropping the cartridge there will always be a lifetime supply of available brass for reloading as long as the .243, 7mm-08 and .308 are around.

It is standard practice at this time of the year for suppliers and dealers to blow out old stock and old models. There was only one of these rifles left at the Warehouse... certainly seems like they sold well enough to me.
I think it will be a cold day in July when Remington drops the .260....

how is this internet rumor of the 260's demise, good news for you?

I think it's like Mark Twain said upon hearing about the report of his own death... "this report of my death was an exageration"... ;)

Well I've seen an awful lot of 300 Win Mags discounted by sako and tikka lately.....I guess they must be dropping that cartridge too eh?? NOT! Oh ya the 7-08 as well.

Cats out of the bag now...the little local gun shop I was refering to is Accuracy Plus in Peterborough. It turns out it was perfect timming on my behalf and theirs in locating this little gem of a deal, as Stoger only had one in the warehouse and only two mags that would fit it......so ya luck was a major factor. Got word yesterday that my 220 VS SF was being worked on by the smith at Accuracy installing my new S/S Timney trigger and adjusting it down to 1lb. Both Varmint rigs should be ready for when the snow hits and give a couple coyotes a steaming morning cup of fresh Nosler this winter.
