I started putting this gun together when I was a young lad (it feels like it). :D And I'm 45 now! :D
Nothing special but thought I'd post. I been waiting for a stock to put it in so I could shoot it comfortably. I'm already happy with the barrel shooting 69 grn smks.

Stevens 200 I bought a little over 2 years ago.
Shilen 223, 8 twist bull from Jerry.
Timney from Jerry.
Aftermarket Stock and tactical bolt handle.
Bushnell 4200 8 x 32.
All slapped together and bedded by moi!

WELL DONE. That looks great.

Love to hear how it shoots for you.

If interested, send me some info when you get it all dialed in and we can add it to my Customer build section of my website.

Looks like spring is coming :)

Enjoy...

Heres a couple of pics from load work up when the barrel was in my modified stevens stock. That day I shot six groups (varying charges) of 5 @ 100 yards with 69 smks and xbr 8208.
The worst groups were in the .5s. Here group #5 and #6 (23.8 grains and 24.0 grains) are by my reckoning in the .3s. I'm not saying I can shoot like this all the time, because I cannot. :)

Still in the old stock at 200 yards, 23.8 of xbr is generally producing groups in .7s, .8s .9s. (not always).

When I started swapping out the parts on this gun, bedding, modifying the stock, ect, I was just trying to get my stevens to shoot that little bit better. Its addictive once you start reloading. Anyway, I got all the ideas and learnt a lot from you guys on the forum. I know its not a precision rifle and I'm not a precision shooter but you have all really helped me and so thanks again.

Don't worry about being perfect right off. That comes with time and experience like some of us old dogs. You're on the right track.
We never had rifles like that back then. It would have been fun assembling my own gun without the need of a smith. Just keep at it and get out and have fun with it.
