It's no secret, I am a fan of the Marlin bolt action rifles. :) While stainless is not my cup of tea, for you guys wanting stainless, Marlin has done it!

Would be interesting to see one or two chambered in the marlin express rounds.

While that would be novel, I don't think there'd be a huge amount of interest as the 308MX and 338MX are close in performance to the existing 308 Win and 30-06 chamberings. That being said, I think one of the supporting dealers here can order Shilen or similar barrels that are threaded for the Marlin receivers and chambered in any cartridge that you fancy --- I'm tempted to do this for a 338 Fed or 358 Win.

Not to hijack the thread, But i don't like it.
It almost makes me a little nausious to be honest. It looks a lot more like a remington than a marlin in my opinion. I hate the way large private equity investment firms like Cerberus swallow independent companies and consolidate them. It's not a Marlin as far as im concerned, it's a reminder of where the economy is heading. Put lightly; im not thrilled at the fact that George W Bushs' former treasury secretary is sitting as chairman of the corporation thats owns Marlin, Remington, Bushmaster, and countless other firearms related manufacturing facilities that thrive on government contracts. Crooked bast**ds have politically sodomized my favorite arms manufacturer and im still a little pissed about it.

I share many of your sentiments and have no desire to buy any of the new Marlin lever actions since there is still a healthy supply of older Marlins to be had.

The bolt guns are a different story for me. The XS7/XL7 were an in-house Marlin (pre-Remington) design and the new stainless models appear to be functionally equivalent, so they're still a Marlin. I was actually surprised to see anything newish from Marlin in the bolt department since that has always been Remington's bread-and-butter. I'm just thankful that Remington hasn't cancelled the XS7/XL7 in favour of their bastard child, the Rem 710/770.

Where can you buy Marlin bolt guns? I never see any XL7 or XS7 rifles. I'm looking at a .270, .25/05 or 30.06

There are at least a half dozen forum sponsors that sell them.

Elwood Epps, P&D, and Shooters Choice Alberta to name a few

Really like my XL7, have one in 30-06, and will be looking for another one soon. Really not a fan of a blind mag, but thats my only issue with it, I guess they have it to keep the costs down, which I am all in favor of.

Not sure I would spend the extra cash on the stainless, the reason I bought the xl7 was due to the low price and great performance.
