Does anyone know if Sig or a 3rd party company makes thinner grips for the Sig P226. I find the grip a little on the chunky side.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanx

I don't know of anyone or any company that makes "thin" grips... but hogue grips tend to have a huge fan following.

If all else fails you could get some wood grips, a file and use up some spare time in thinning off those.

Hogues will make the grip larger. The factory grips are the thinest that I've found.

My solution to the clunky grip on the 226 was to sell mine and by a 1911.

I already have a 1911. I love the Sig, I just find the grip a bit too chunky, but not uncomfortable. I guess I will have to live with it.

I think the Norinco plastic grips that come on the NP22 are actually smaller. I am sure someone would be willing to trade ya ;)

I'm with ya on the buying a 1911 for my med sized hands. I bought a SIG P226R and loved the way it felt. Took a pair of Hogue grips (advice of a LEO buddy and SIG lover) and shaved them down to ratshzt until everything fit nicely. Problem solved.

I still prefer the SA trigger of any 1911... spoiled by 1911 and Browning HP triggers I guess.

Cheers,
barney

I really don't understand you 1911 nuts...

For me it all comes down to one thing... when properly tuned, the 1911 has the best handgun trigger I've ever found. I too have a 226, and yes it is chunky, but that is what I expect from a double stack gun. The 226 is a great firearm, balanced, pointable, controllable, a pleasure to shoot and I wouldn't part with it... but it just isn't a 1911.

try SIG P220 they are single stack, IIRC new once come only in .45, but there are some 9mm models around. I personally find them to be too thin and prefer the feel of P226...
