Thinking about a Win 94 post 64 , some Q and A pls

Am I unrealistic for thinking I can get a good one for $300?

Depends how picky you are about condition, if it were me I would spend $450 and get a pre-64. Still a hell of a good deer rifle for the money. But for $350 you should be able to get a fairly nice post-64. Don't pay more unless it's in exceptional condition. They are fairly common and if you be patient you will get a good one for a fair price.

Chances of getting a good one for $300 in BC are slim
Cough up another $150 and you might find a pre 64, or a real nice later one
And just so you know, a new 94 is around $1300 at the gun store, thats why the older ones hold there value

Owned a few Win 94s until I bought that first Marlin 336. Why would anyone want a (post 64) Win 94 when Marlin went to the trouble of designing a practical 30-30 lever rifle that is better and more user friendly in every respect? $0.02.

Marlin 30/30's are for people who are too cheap to but a real lever action...........

I swapped flavors from the 94's to the 336's. Just a world of win with aging eyes.
Scopes are easy to mount on top and low on the Marlins verses the gaaaadly 94 side mounts.
Looks like a side saddle on a horsie for kripes sakes.

Your right, a scope on an old Winchester with side mounts is horrible
And yes the Marlin's do shoot good, but what can I say.... Winchesters are just ###y.....
