I am looking at buying a Russian SKS. What should I be looking for marking/stamping wise? What should I be looking at price wise?

Cheers,

I paid $300 for mine a few years back. Look for a 5 pointed star on either the receiver cover or the left side rail.

1) Star with date on receiver cover: Tula 1949- early '55, Star on left receiver rail, no date: Tula 1955/56. Last year of production.
2) Triangle with fletched arrow in circle and date on receiver cover: Izhevsk 1953, 54 dates only.

Laminated stocks on refurbed rifles and last Tula production. Solid Birch on original condition carbines. Serial number on the left side of the stock will match the receiver and arsenal stamp with date matching rifle arsenal and date will be found there. ### out serial number with new number stamped indicates a replacement stock.

Box with diagonal slash through it stamped on stock and/or metal indicates refurbed item.

Depends if you want a collectors piece or a fun gun. I chose the latter and am quite happy with my purchase.

EDIT: I just saw the date of the original post :D
