met my first german shorthair pointer a few months ago and fell in love ....... where have these dogs been all my life .....

I've met a couple more recently and they are some of the sweetest kindest happy dogs you will every meet ......... unless someone wings you with a shot gun .....then you will be shaken and barked at until dead , than dragged back :D

I have never seen a dog go from happy and playful then when circumstances call for it he flips into business mode with a fierce intensity of focus waiting for you to give the command to retrieve.... in this case it was a tennis ball .

anyways I want one more than likely not until next summer .

so for anyone who has a gsp where did you get them from ?

anyone bring one in from out of the country ?
how big of a deal was it paper work wise ?
how did the pup handle the trip ?

closer to home , does anyone know of any breeders in BC , or better yet between Kamloops and Prince George ?

Okay, your post doesn't explicitly say so, but are you going to hunt with this dog?

If so, you don't just want a gap, you want a kurzhaar...

Read about them here; http://www.canamdk.org/about-deutsch-kurzhaar-club.php

Cheers
Jay
P.S. If you are not going to exercise the dog daily OFF LEASH & hunt with the dog, don't get the kurzhaar! Just like the Drahthaar, they are a MACHINE & just don't have an off switch.

You also don't want your game "shaken until dead..." You want it brought to hand in good condition... hardmouth is no fun in a sporting dog.

There a couple of Breeders in Idaho that have good blood lines.
Relatively easy to bring across the border too.
Can not help with exact breeder but could find out the info.
BTW, Jay if I recall has one who really and I really mean enjoys the taste of porcupines too....
Just as a sidebar if you will.

I thought you meant one of these....

I've had three GSP-s so far. They were all Canadian Champions and two of them were Field Champions as well. I miss them every day and hope to get a new GSP puppy soon.

Don't restrict dogs to those found in your local area, go for the breeder and breeding you want.

You could contact this group and inquire about local breeders.ht tp://www.wildrosenavhda.com/

A good resource here for general dog info and specific info about breeds, look at test scores and breeding results. ht tp://www.navhda.org/

PM me if you wish and I can point you to a couple good breeders.

I was leaning more towards a more "laid back" dog ...... if I understand the gsp lines correctly , the ones they use for showing might fit into what I'm looking for .

when I say laid back , in gsp terms , it is like a human only having 15 cups of coffee a day instead of 18 :D .

I'm thinking of day to day living , going to work and coming come and not finding the dog has made some new entrance ways in the house by eating the gyprock off the walls kind of thing :D .

I'm thinking a kurzhaar might be too much ........ but I was also checking out some breeders in Europe too .

he will definitely get trained for hunting and used to gunfire ..... the other 10 months of the year he'll be a friend to share your food and couch with :D

for me it is also about meeting the parents and the puppies and getting a feel for them and seeing if you click with any of them , that is why I was wondering if there was anyone within driving distance

thx for the responses guys :D ...... love your dog kamlooky :)
