I'm thinking of having a long range plinker built. Here's what I'm looking for:

Something I can shoot out to around 1000m, 1100 absolute max.

Must be reasonable to reload for, both cost and in ease of finding a decent load.

I like long barrels, 26"+.

Winchester M70, Remington M700 or Savage action.

Weight is no bearing. Heavier the better. I want to watch every shot land, and I hate muzzle breaks.

I'll custom build a nice walnut stock for it.

Caliber wise I'm thinking 223 with a fast twist, 6mmBR or 308. For a different option, I wouldn't rule out 300 H&H, because we're shooting heavy bullets here anyway, and I love that caliber. Although cheap reloading kinda goes out the window a bit.

I'd want a repeater too.

I'm thinking a match barrel with which ever build.

Budget for this one will be about $3k before glass. That's including a decent but not super fancy stock blank (think $500 or under).

What combination would you guys suggest? This will be my second LR plinking rifle, first was a M12 FCV in 223.

Agree with the 6.5/260. The 140grs have excellent ballistics. Takes a 200 grs 30 cals to match with a lot more recoil.

6.5 x47 lapua, building one off a savage action right now, 26 inch shilen select match pre fit, Richards microfit thumbhole benchrest stock, rifle basix trigger and a sightron Siii total cost to me including glass is $2200 ( got a really good deal on the action and stock)
