Hey all. I'm wanting to upgrade a scope on my 2506. What would be better I can't decide. 3-9x50 or 4-12x40. It will be used mostly for hunting but the odd longer range ground hog as well. Also what does everyone think of the AR plex? I'm used to a mil dot

I just, (last night) got my redfield. I have not had a chance to get it out shooting yet but :

so far, glass is clearer than my bushnell 3200 3-9x40, 10x40. No distortion around the edges.

the scope is SOLID. nothing is loose or rattles, the threads on the adjustment dials are tight, easy to use.

The accu-range isn't bad, the large circle draws your eye a lot better than the standard 4 plex.

the instructions and reticle measurements are pretty vague unfortunately. they change as you increase (or decrease) the magnification

I've yet to get it out to the range to do any playing with it, but so far, it is leaps and bounds above my Bushnells, so much that all my rifles will be undergoing a glass swap within the new year.

I have the 4-12X40 with the AR plex on my 7mm 08' and love it. I had only leupolds on all my rifles until they came out with the Redfield again (It's a Leupold anyway) so I decided to try one on my latest purchase. My daughter and I each took Whitetails with it this past fall and found the scope to be clear and the reticle easy to use. For the money I believe it's a great scope and I will not hesitate to buy another.

The 140g 7mm 08' wasn't listed in the chart for the reticle but I found by playing with my point of impact at 100 yards a bit it was easy to get on at the farther distances. I believe I'm 3-4 inches off at 500 yards but as long as I know that all is good.

I don't believe you'll be dissapointed with a 4-12X40 and with todays optics the 50mm objective is mostly just added weight and size.
