What I have in mind is:

T3 Stainless synthetic in .270 WSM
Tikka rings
Burris Fullfield 2-7X35

I think this would work well for most conditions in Ontario.

I can also get a good price on a Weatherby Vanguard in 270 WSM

Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure but isn't the .270 to large to legally use on a coyote when hunting?

Not in Ontario acording to the regs. This is what it says in regards to rifles for small game.

The holder of a small game licence may not use a rifle of greater calibre than .275, except a flintlock or percussion cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting small game in the counties of Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and Wellington and the regional municipalities of Chatham/Kent, Durham, Haldimand-Norfolk, Halton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York and the City of Toronto.

I would go with a .25-06. Availability and pricing on the short mags is not that great. The .25-06 has been around for a long time and is a proven load that is readily available. Just my 2 cents..........

"...isn't the .270 too large to legally use..." No. The idiotic Southwestern Ontario(not all of Southern Ontario) calibre restriction goes by the cartridge name, not the actual calibre. As daft as that is.

270 wsm would be nasty on the yotes man. 243 with barns vaminator 72 gr and 85gr tsx for the deer.

I know. This is more livestock defense then looking for the pelts. Besides I have a Rem SPS in .243 win, a M98 in .270 win, Malrin 30/30 and a T3 in 300wm.

I have everything I "need" this is just another toy idea.

It'll work just fine! So will the SPS .243 and your 98 .270;) but I think you ought to buy the Vanguard anyway. Under .275 is the regulation in the area that is regulated. Aint never seen a .275 Rigby but as mention it would be called legal even though it's aparently a 7mm.
Check your municipality as there are some townships that have there own bylaws. These are few but they do exist. Smith comes to mind near Peterborough. They used to have a .22rf and shotgun only regulation while across the road I could shoot chucks with anything I wished. 905 is where there would be municipality regs if there was anywhere. It is a very populated area and deer seasons there are shotgun and m/l only so bigger calibers wouldn't be much advantage anyway on varmints.

.270 has been alowed and shot for ever so I guess it aint much of a problem. What would help is if a bunch a real smart fellers contested the ruling and ended up changing it eh!

My bad, was recalling PEI Regs.

Anyways, if its a coyote 'defense' gun, does it really matter?
