Well i was thinking of buying a new .22 i had thought about buying a .17 HMR but started to read a little about the 22 WIN MAG what is you opinions on this one. I have a .22 savage already so thinking of something a little different. Any info i great thanks

I own a .22 LR and a .22 Magnum and they are nothing alike so if you are looking for something different my vote is the .22 Magnum. They are cheaper to shoot then the .17HMR and, in my opinion having shot both, hit harder and send small game for more of a ride :D .

Now, the .17 HMR has the .22 magnum beat in accuracy for most out of the box rifles but people don't by a .22 mag for accuracy, they buy it for hunting small game. A decent out of the box .22 mag can do 1.5" at 100 yards and for small game that is all you need. If you want to spend a few more $$ you will be able to find a .22 mag that will shoot with a .17HMR.

Having owned both, I actually traded my .17HMR in for some $$ to build a custom 10/22 Magnum and have never looked back.

RUGER 10/22 I love mine, its completely stock right now, but im going to put a tasco red dot on it, and im trying to "Black gun" it up. torn between tapco and christie stocks

I would get the .17HMR. IMO the .17HMR is more accurate and just a bit different from everythign else. Excellent on small game and lots of ammunition available for it at most gun shops. Take a look at the ballistic charts at the top of the page and that might help you make your decision :)

Ya I jumped on the .17HMR bandwagon. I love it, just point and click. I find it works real good with little adjustments from 20m to 200m shooting. It may not make the gophers jump as high as the .22 mag but the .17 will reach out further to say hi.

The .22 magnum is expensive to shoot compared to a .22 LR. If you're thinking about the .17HMR, go look in your local shops for ammo. There's no point buying a rifle you can't easily get ammo for.
