Thinking of getting a CSA VZ58 ... I have questions ...

So I've got an itch for a new toy with easy to obtain and cheap ammunition: 7.62x39. The only rifle that has piked my interest is the VZ58 with the 18.9" barrel.

Questions:

They seem to be hard to findable and many vendors are sold out. Are they no longer in production?

What kind of accuracy can be expected in MOA?

Why do all the collapsible stocks have an angle to them? Can you get adapters so they are straight? And why do you see so few Magpul stocks on these? (I didn't see too many flipping through the photo thread)

Do all VZ58s have chrome lined barrels? If not, how can you tell which ones do and don't?

Compared to the other cheap plinkers out there like the M305, how do they rate in terms of quality?

Edit: I see they only have the 5.56 in stock currently. Frontier Firearms has the 7.62, priced a tad higher. I usually watch the ammo source website and it seems like they get these back in stock quite regularly.
 
I saw all the hype about the 958 but let's not kid ourselves, that could be quite a while down the road. I was hoping to find a used one on the EE for a good price (everyone seems to want near retail prices for their VZ58s from what I've been seeing the last couple of weeks) so that I wouldn't feel too bad about beating it around in my wheeler or at the range. For whatever reason, I can't see myself babying a red gun as much as my DDM4 and because of that I'm reluctant to spend 1000$ on one. Maybe that just makes me prejudice. I'll probably end up buying new though.

As far as I know, they are still in production - they are just popular.

Really ammo dependent. Expect around 3-4".

The angle is to get the proper sight picture through irons - yes you can get a straight-line adapter, but your cheekweld will be off.

It's an option, listed online at retailers as such. The lining usually costs $50 more.

The overall build quality is a lot nicer than 305's - they are in a different class. I wouldn't call a grand for this quality a "cheap plinker".
 
That last line is a bit of a relief to hear. I just assume that anything red is going to be poorly made in some outdated coal fired factory, that's why I'm reluctant to spend 1000$ on one when you can get a half decent AR for the same price.
 
I hear ya. People seem to think they can get above retail for their VZ's. Keep your eye open on the EE. You will be able to find some for the 800-900 mark. This will be my next purchase for sure, But if im spending 1k i would just buy new and not even bother with the EE. Good luck!

Couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, I've never had an eastern block firearm that wasn't nicely built.
 
Are there any 10 round pistol mags for these? This would be the only downside to this rifle . In my opinion 5 rounds at a time in a plinking rifle isn't enough.
 
At the momen I've got Browning's version of the FNAR for hunting deer and while accurate, it's HEAVY. A lighter .30 cal would be great and I'm thinking the VZ58 would likely work well inside 200m. Not sure if I'd be comfortable taking a 300m shot with a rifle that shoots 3-4MOA.
 
I have a couple of 7.62 CSA's. I have fired about 4000 rounds through the 7.62's, absolutely flawless using Chinese cheap non corrosive ammo. The downside I found with these rifles is the crude sights. Stock sights and its a 3 to 4 minute gun. Put on a red dot and its about a 2 minute or better gun. I wish they came with decent aperture sights.
