rifle.
So, I had an SR-22 before, and realized that my plans for it were going to add up to AR $$, and it would be really heavy. Plus, I only ever used it at the range anyways - why not just go full black?
I looked at the JR - not digging the long barrel look/feel of it.
I've done a bunch of reading, but thought I'd open up to opinions. No shortage of that around here, right? ;)
Things I would like to incorporate:
Prolly going to use a Dlask anniversary lower. Seen it in person, like Joes product.
I would like to go piston.
Not looking to build a heavy gun, and not a PDW - maybe 14"?
Also like to incorporate some of the goodies from Armtac. Chris has been good to me in the past.
To throw a wrench in the mix, I just saw the Adcor goodies from Sask Gunworks - like some of those features.

I have never built an AR (obviously), but am in no way intimidated by it. In fact, I would rather do as much of the work myself than buy something pre-built.

Party on.

cool i debated going that route for my first AR then i decided the NEA was a pretty damn good deal. building my own i was looking at about 1300 dollars before tax and that was basically a spikes tactical build. which you can buy a spikes for 1300 built. in the end i went with pre ordering an NEA. and now i can take my time and order parts at my leisure or as i can afford. this is an expensive hobby sometimes :)

Yup, I know.
I have contemplated buying a Norc and slowly replacing parts as I go, effectively ending up with two AR's at the end. Then I can sell off the Norc if I decide to.

I will tell you right now, Questar.

They have Spikes Tactical ST-15 14.5" and 10.5" models in stock.

Price is decent for a wicked quality made AR platform.

I made three Spikes purchases from them in two months.

The Thureon Defense 9mm carbine might interest you if you were considering a JR until its looks threw you off.

I have a Black Special and an XCR-L and both are fine rifles and possibly alternatives for you to look at.

Daniel Defense carbines from Wolverine. I was thinking of getting one of those. Well rated here from what I've read so far.

thats what i thought i don't like the plastic non rail foregrip so i would be changing that out and if im going to do that anyway i might as well get an nea and the slowly build another free float quadrail ar from scratch.

Rather go full .223/5.56. I already have a bolt gun in .223, and I reload for it.
I'm kind of rethinking the piston and Adcor, too.
I'll be in Calgary in a little over a week, hoping I have some time to check out hardware there.
