So this year iit was time to retire my beretta 96 and get a new handgun. So i got weighed it out, and of all my options i decided to get a new handgun, that was the sig sauer p226. I've put approx 1000 rounds through it, shoots great. I'm now wanting to mod it a little. Two questions

1. My gun fits my hand wel, now i'm thinking about getting a hoag grip. Can someone share their experience with it? How does it fit, feel? The gun fits well now, not a lot of extra room tho, but i looks like the grip would fit very comfortably.

2. I'm thinking about getting a trigger job. I've noticed a lot of people have been modding their glock triggers, and i would like to do the same right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks

The Hogue grip that I had on my P220 added considerable width, and the rubber finger grooves - Which was good with that pistol, as it was too small for my hand.

Which action do you have? TDA? You might be able to smooth the DA pull a little, but I don't know how much lighter it will get. The single action is about as good as it gets, IMHO.

SIG P-226 Mods

I have a P-226 Equinox. Here is what I have done:

I replaced the wood grips which while attractive are just too big for me. My preferred grips are the SIG aluminum models. While not cheap, they are slim and very secure in my hand.

I bought the Hogue grip and true to my experience with my revolver, I didn't like the "one size fits all" finger grooves. For my hand with slim fingers, the "highs" are in the wrong place. My solutions was to sand off the bottom two "highs". Now I like the feel and appreciate the extra diameter and cushioning when I use my SIG .357 barrel as the .357 is snappier.

The best thing I did for the action was to install a tuning kit supplied by GrayGuns which includes a lighter main spring and a titanium safety block. Both the DA and SA triggers are as good as I want them now.

I installed a slightly longer mag release control also purchased from GrayGuns which helps with fast reloads in IPSC shooting.

I also have a SIG X-five which was worked over by GrayGuns and with the kit, the P-226 is comparatively a good value and excellent performer.

More details would be helpful, but +1 on everything that hercster said, especially regarding the GGI spring kits and mag release.

Ummm, which one? Hogue makes many grips from many materials. Were you looking to make the grip bigger? Smaller? More rubbery? Less woody? More aluminumy? Less plasticy?

I have a pair of Hogue G10s on a SS Elite that came with fat wood grips. I like them because they're thinner, grippier, and show absolutely no wear.

What do you have on it now?

Again, what do you want to do? Clean up the DA? Shorten the reset? Lighten the DA? Lighten the SA?

What model did you buy? Does it have an SRT?

What does a titanium safety block do to improve the action? Is it expensive to send a firearm to Gray Guns from Canada?

I have a P226 .22LR , I Have Modded it, they come factory with a composite guide rod, and the mags have no followers to engage the slide lock on the last round ..being a rim fire , I hate the idea of counting rounds, and it is supposed to emulate it's bigger caliber counterparts as it serves as a training/ target pistol. I have found some wonderful redesigned mags that are composite as well, but have the correct followers integrated into their design which flawlessly engages the slide lock on the last round. I have also installed a stainless steel guide rod for a bit more muzzle weight. Seriously my favourite target pistol! I have two with the same mods.

SRT and grips. That is the extent of what you are allowed to change on an already perfect firearm. :p

...or buy an HK.

I have the p226 equinox! It has the best handgun sights I've ever seen - fiber optic front with night sights thrown into the mix as well! I do like the grips it came with (darker wood grips). If the grips were not satisfactory, I'd switch to the E2 or g10 smooth (black). I've contemplated getting the srt, but I'm happy enough with the trigger at the moment - $100 for a little improvement
