I want to keep it carbine length, as short as possible but be as accurate as possible. Anyone have any suggestions?

Accuracy does not depend on barrel length but on the quality of the barrel, barrel crown, bedding and ammo. Length only effects velocity. So, get any quality barrel from about 18" or longer and you're good to go :dancingbanana:

Why bother dicking around with a weird thread? Bubba will be your name the second you take it apart. Buy a new rifle with a barrel profile you like and have it trimmed to length.

Savage has great prices on rifles with single shot, internal box, hinged floor plate and detachable magazines, wood or synthetic stocks, blued or stainless steel and a wide variety of chamberings.

Custom barrels cost more than allot of rifles are worth. Just because a new custom barrel would be heavyer, does not mean it would be more accurate nessasarly, but you might get a better chamber/bore, and that may lead to better accuracy. Changing the barrel, it wouldn't be a moisin anymore.. so you may as well start with a sporter action like savage, and leave the moisin what it is.

The mosin isn't really a mosin anymore anyway, I'm currently only using the barreled action everything else is new or custom. I figure I'm already playing with this rifle I may as well stick to it, its something different too.

Call me bubba all you want, I'm not one to care lol.

i'd say do it, and post pics!

speakin of rebarreling a mosin, i always thought it would be interesting to wildcat a mosin to 6x54R

Get a .308 blank and you will have much better bullet selection.

Yea I was thinking that too. So this is mostly for hunting with shots out to a max of 500m but mostly around 100m. I just want really good accuracy when I'm at the range and such so what would you guys recomend for a new barrel?

If you shell out for a nice barrel, at least get a good smith to properly weld on a sporting bolt handle.

A nice looking scope mount might be a bit of a challenge. Maybe a repro PE or PEM mount might look allright.

A custom Mosin would certainly look interesting and different. If I did one, I'd probably craft the stock to have "jowls" that cover the sides of the mag like on a Berthier. That'd look interesting.

Actually, being a lefty I really like the straight bolt handle. I also want to keep the forward mounted scope setup. It will deffinately be something unique. But why do what someone else wants when you can do what you want, lol. So far the scout setup that I have is my fave rifle to shoot, I just want to get it a little more accurate (which depends a lot on me I know).

Have you tried bedding the action to the receiver? That should help immensely... And be way cheaper than a new barrel too.

Also, if you nwat a less expensive rebarrel, I think there's enough room to turn down a Remington factory take-off barrel shank and recut the threads.
