Thinking of upgrading from my Glock 17 to 1911 - Need advice

That's a lot of great advice...thanks to everyone.

I should of been more specific...I will be keeping the Glock.

Now the question is which 1911?

I have a Dillon 650XL so I will be reloading. Having said that I do get lazy sometimes and buy factory ammo which seems to be slightly more expensive in 45.

Looks like my options are Kimber, Les Bauer, Colt and STI

nice shout out to Fetty Wap...did you notice the guy in the video that you posted said "I got a Glock in my Rarri, 17 shots from my 38"

Actually he says " I got a Glock in my 'rari, 17 shots NO 38" referencing the fact that he can fire 17 rounds with the Glock unlike the .38... Just sayin' lol

yes and it is also a play on words...Fetty refers to his crew as "the Remy boys" and Remy Martin makes a 1738 cognac (a bottle of which is shown in the vid)..which is why i love rap music..so clever

and to keep the thread on track...if you are considering high end 1911s like STI and Les Baer, may as well look at Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Cabot, Guncrafter Industries etc. there are some absolutely beautiful pieces of art out there

My buddy is a 1911 fan(I'm not) and owns a few(multiples) of the brand names.....Sig, Colts, Les Baer, etc. My favourite to shoot and fondle is his Les Baer Monolith. Nice trigger with guaranteed accuracy option from the factory.
Al Flaherty's had a few Les Baer's and they sold quick.....

Get a 1911. You'll be happier. IMHO stay away from a Gold Cup. Made for light loads. A steady diet of factory loads will eventually crack the frame. Ask me how I know? + for $1500. you can get a nice Kimber. I've shot them all and owned several. My Kimber is by far the best one.

Never heard of that. They do come with recoil springs for light and standard loads, though, and by default I put a new Wolfe 18lb in all of my guns, because more than one came to me with dodgy springs.

OP - thanks for the thread. I came here to see some Glock boys get triggered, and it did not disappoint ;)

Colts I like, but you do pay the pony tax. I had a Trojan and it was a great gun. I also bought it when they were more like $1200. I would not pay the going rate for one now.
For starting out, Ruger makes a good gun. I had one, and I regret selling it.

But if economy is less an object for you, follow your heart. Once you stop buying 1911's that cost less than Glocks, those supposed problems that they love to moan on about go away
