I looked under the mentoring sticky but.....I have a cousin who is interested in taking up hunting and shooting. He has asked me if i could bring him Grouse hunting, he understands as he does not have his PAL or hunting licence yet he cannot shoot. The question is can he come along for the walk. I told him he most likely could not. Am I right in that answer?? Thanks in advance.

He can't come along for a walk while your hunting though. It would be considered as if he were hunting (without a license) and he could be charged wth poaching. Thats what the instructor told me when i did my course. i know its stupid but its what i was told when i asked for a friend of mine who wanted to do the same.
The shooting part though i.e. plinking at cans etc he is good to go for aslong as he is with you and your fully licensed etc.

My understanding is the same - if hunting - he needs a licence. However the apprentice ship program in Ontario is a farce. My 12 yr old has done the courses and passed the same exams etc as the 20 yr old but can not get her own licence. i understand mentorship etc and have no problem even having to share a rifle, but in the case where she has done everything to meet the same requirements as a 20 yr old and not able to get her own licence I have a problem with . She is problably even more resopnsible than most 20 yr olds that can own their own gun and hunt on their own. well my rant!

Meh - I bring my kids all the time (all under 12). They don't have a license. I know a guy who brings his wife all the time.
Technically the CO could say it was illegal under the definition of hunting in Ontario. Have your buddy bring a camera. Personally I think as long he is not pushing game, etc. you have nothing to worry about.
