From Questar.

LMT-SPM16-X Standard Defender Package (16')

Price is right, and there is a discount of an extra couple bucks off for LE.

Ive read and read and read on this part of the forum, rather than posting questions where the answers already exist, and shy of buying Chinese, you really cannot go wrong with any AR platform.

Not much on it, simple, looks like it works, and Im not one for bells and whistles hanging off my firearms.

It won't be an immediate purchase since my AR fund is just starting to grow, but it's something to look forward to after Christmas.

It will be for Service Rifle, Plinking, training, etc. I can build on it as my experience and AR education grows.

Any opinions or opinions on this model?

I went through a similar pre-purchase study before getting my first AR just over a year ago. I couldn't justify a gas piston gun at the time, nor an 'upper end' AR like a Noveske for a first AR.

I'm like you, although I have since heard a look of good stories on how well most Norinco's hold up, I am not confortable buying any Chinese guns, tools, equipment, or supporting their ecomony and not the NA ecomony. If I can, I will always buy NA, or European made guns/products.

Even though an LMT AR was a bit of a premium, and they cost more back then than they do now, I ended up buying a 16" LMT. After a few months of enjoying the 16" LMT I ended up buying a 10.5" LMT, so I now own two LMT's! Both guns are accurate, feed and shoot well and I've never had an issue with either gun.

The price of the LMT line has come down a fair bit since I bought my guns. I feel you are getting a very good piece of equipment at a fair price these days with an LMT. I'm certain it will do everything you listed above with ease. Plus when the time comes, I am sure you will retain more value in the LMT over a Chinese made AR.

Just a word of caution, start saving up now for all of the 'add ons' you will end up "wanting" to attach to your AR!

I was at a seminar last week and Scott B. was there from Questar, and he was real friendly and had a lot to say about AR builds and packages.

That model does not have a threaded barrel or an adjustable stock.

I would buy the LMT-SPM16-F, Proper buffer tube that is adjustable and a threaded barrel.

The extra cost I guess, pay in the beginning since Id end up changing those parts later on.

This is about as bad as buying a car.
