For the month of March, picked up 4 SKS's, though one is still in the mail (a chinese factory 306).

From top to bottom:

1) 1951 unissued, frankenpin gun, non-refurb from Weimajack. Nice rifle apart from the buchered mag. Gloss chromed bayonet. Bore not chrome lined.
2) 1952 refurb, laminate stock and laminate handguard too (nice!), frankenpinned from Lebaron. One of the nicest refurbs I've ever seen, no paint anywhere, my favorite "shooter" now. Matte chromed bayo.
3) 1954 unissied IZH first shipment picked up from a friend on CGN (thanks!). Beautiful rifle, mag pinned they way they all should be. Bayo is matte, but still coated in the gold preservative.

On all the rifles, only the '52 has any renumbered parts - just the gas tube. Everything else original :)

grr... forgot to wipe off the fingerprints :( Also, camera flash in basement with a quick point & shoot snapshot don;t make for great pics. Daylight would make these look nicer.

I think the SKS gets a bad rap because those who don't like them typically are expecting what an AK47 or VZ58 can offer, that is to say, pistol grip, folding stock options, light weight, short, semi-auto version of an assault rifle.

An SKS does NOT fit that bill IMHO. I consider them more like an M1 garand or M1 carbine than an AK substitute.

When thought of as a semi-auto service rifle or carbine, it's hard to beat the simple dependability and reliability that the SKS brings to the table. And blued steel and wood always looks good IMHO.

IMHO, the SKS is a good, reliable arm from a country that needed a good, reliable arm for it's people to use in cold, hot, sandy and wet. My only question is why did they pull the spring loaded firing pin out and left the firing pin floating?
