Well, how about the working mans Model 27? The venerable M28 Highway Patrolman, which (from what I have read) was about 30 bucks cheaper than the fancy M27 due to non-gloss blueing. Which was 30 bucks less then some cops had to dole out when they had to buy their own sidearm.

Mine has had SEVERAL thousand rounds of .38 WC loads thru it but also a few thousand .357 loads... with the 6" tube, a real accurate wheelgun.
The only addition is the Pachmayer grips and I had a local smith tune the trigger (also put in a spring kit) cuz I enjoy shooting DA (as opposed to slowpoke SA).
The blueing ain't glossy and it's showing it's age and wear... but still groups tight and that's what counts.

I had a 27-2 with a 5 " barrel .
Beautiful gun , with quite a bark . It was a very accurate gun .
Definately one of the nicest revolvers I have ever seen .

Freddo, I like the M27-2 a lot more than the M28-2. I own both and they are in beautiful shape but the M27-2's fit and finsh are out of the class of my M28-2. If I had never tried a M27 I would be head over heels in love with the M28s. To show you I know a little about N-Frames this is my M28-2 with Herrett Jordan Trooper grips. Regards, Richard :D
