I leave for the city in two hours with cash in hand for a new rifle. Its a toss up between .270, 7mm-08, 7mm rem mag or a .30-06. I have the reloading gear for all the calibers but after two weeks of pondering i am still undecided. My head is spinning right now.

Hey Mark; Go for the 7MM 08 I have killed pretty much everything that walks, flies or crawls with that calibre. It's no .30-30 but it is a good cartridge.

................i'm thinking .270 in a stainless SPS config. With a straight 6 power on top.

buy a HS Precision 2000 in 300 savage, mount the oldest 4x32mm scope you can find on the exchange. use see through mounts, real high ones

I have a brand new McMillan, set of Talleys and a 3x9 Leupold Matte waiting for your 270. Please look after it well and break in the bbl properly.

That would be a good set up! I have a few straight power scopes on hunting rifles and really like them.

I vote '06 because of caliber and cartridge availability, price and popularity. Alongside that I'd say go with a 7mm-08.

You know, that's not a bad idea...consulting "the group" before purchasing. to see what they might be looking for... I know at least in my case, I've bought several rifles over the last couple years that "I just had to have..." only to sell them very quickly to another Gun-nut.
